THE INNOVATIVE SOLUTION WAS TO BUILD A CONCRETE RETAINING WALL, KNOWN AS A SLURRY WALL. DESPITE FEARS THAT IT MIGHT BE BREACHED ON 9/11, THEREBY WORSENING THE CATASTROPHIC IMPACT OF THE ATTACKS, THE WALL HELD. THIS IS A PORTION OF THE ORIGINAL WALL

Since columns in Ephesus were made up of several segments they were aligned as they were erected with the use of pegs. Sometimes wood. Sometimes metal. It appears that this segment had been bored into to extract a metal peg prior to the time the column collapsed.

This old WWII era airstrip south of the Gladden 1 MOA in Arizona, has was appears to be the remains of a segmented circle, indicating the preferred runway use patterns. It is known by several names, including American Airways Field, Salome Emergency Field, and Salome CAA Site 27 B.
Left lying around for weeks, the Segs start coming apart. These have quite a leverage. I would recommend leaving the two halfs unglued untill a day before the rings are glued ontop of each other. That way the wood should have settled some. The overlapping joints will give more resistance to the opening movement.
