Day 2 near Yurt to near Cataract Lake - Segment 22/23
The descent from the high point included a steep jeep trail. With the loose dirt it was slippery. Near Carson Saddle there were old mining ruins. It is always interesting to think of all the activities that were once happening.
Segment 23 begins at Carson Saddle. USFS 568 road access is here with resupply options at Lake City. Not alot of traffic though, so don't expect an easy hitch. Typical dirt road probably, but since I haven't driven it, I don't know for sure.
Heading toward an unnamed pass, I stopped at a stream for a short break. A couple of other hikers also stopped for a few moments. Continuing on, the pass was quite visible but slow to attain. The wind continued to howl.
After the pass, it was downhill to my destination near Cataract Lake. It turned out not to be my final destination, however. I setup camp near some bushes to shield from the wind. I ate dinner but it was too windy, so I packed up in search of another site. As this was also my turnaround point, I headed down Cataract Gulch Trail for approximately an hour before finding a suitable site.
It was about a 14 mile day, not including the extra hour after dinner.
These are our pretty new dishes, I love them! I've been using them as props for my latest jewelry photos.
