This rainbow appearance marked the end of the first 6 days of June that yielded 3.17" of rain. Though the arrival was late, it was just in time to avoid a serious drought this summer.
its been a great month!
Thanks so much to Afterforty, ZXgirl &JCIV for making the group work so cohesively & efficiently and managing to keep it all such great fun!

I dont have time to look at everyone's pictures tonight and am going to be off line tomorrow but will do on Monday!
A peculiar leaf beetle with an inflated segment on each antenna (beetle = 4mm long, Metacoryna sp., Chrysomelidae). Found it crawling over our camp light in the miombo forests of Mikembo (DR Congo, Katanga, January 2015, ethanol preserved specimen).

I've been waiting for this to start taking shape. It is part of the Delta Junction of HS2, specifically where the north Birmingham chord joins the main line. We are looking north along the HS2 main line, running underneath is the existing main line between Water Orton and Lea Marston. There will be six tracks on HS2 here; three on the main line, on the viaduct that travels straight across in the foreground, it forms the River Tame West Viaduct (the Tame is behind the camera). Alongside is a single track part of the main line, separated to allow the Birmingham chord to join, that is on the River Tame East Viaduct. The other two viaducts will rise over the main line and curve towards the camera, Water Orton No. 1 and Water Orton No, 2. There is lots to see, including people working inside the viaduct segments, and lines of segments in the background waiting to be moved forwards. The segments are made nearby (off to the right of camera), and each is cast using the previous segment as a template, so they will fit together nicely. The train is also an HS2-related working, 4H96 Small Heath - Tunstead.

Another from the Tower Place carpark in London. Well worth a visit if you're in the area, especially as the staff don't give you any grief!
I've started to put together a map of spiral staircases in London. If you look at this Google Map you can see the one's I'm aware of. If you've got any that you know of that aren't on the map and you like them added then send me a Flickr mail with the details and I'll add it.
A slightly different view of the Ranunculus flower taken with my Macro lens on a tripod. I love the texture in the petals - they almost look like crisps...!

One segment of the Minnesota Northern's duties along the Warroad Subdivision includes switching Star of the West Milling in Saint Hilaire - the only rail customer in town. MNN's pair of SD40-3s bring a single carload to town for delivery.
