Emergency: Russian Rocket out of control to slam on earth in few hours time. They can't determine yet the possible crash landing site, could be anywhere along it chosen path. We have to pray it'll not drop by our backyard and of others.

HMC Seeker is a Border Agency (customs) cutter of the United Kingdom. She was launched by Damen Shipyards in the Netherlands in 2001 and is one of four 42-metre (138 ft) cutters formerly operated by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, and since 2008 operated by the UK Border Agency, this is based at Gravesend on the River Thames.
Inside a ruined German bunker complex on L'Oeillere headland, Jersey. This was quite scary to be honest - I didn't have a torch (the light at the end of the corridor is coming through where the anti-tank gun would have been located) and there were rooms to the left and right which were pitch dark, I've no idea what was in there. When I first walked in I could see a chair at the end of the corridor, and I thought someone else was in there too. Clearly kids have been in, judging from the graffiti.
I spent a while in here but then the oppressive atmosphere and the noise from the dark side rooms - pigeons, I think - compelled me to get out into the sunlight and fresh air.

A Ruffed Grouse moves quickly through the powder snow along the roadside in the Lamar Area of Yellowstone National Park.
Shot this during one of my astrophotography sessions in the mountains in Santa Barbara. I love how some cars came through my shot as I was getting the Milky Way.

Over the years I have been fascinated by Ansel Adams' photograph of the Tetons from the area of the current Snake River Overlook in GTNP. One of the striking features of his image is the bend of the river in the foreground. In the years since Ansel took his dramatic image the trees have grown up making the same view seemingly impossible today. I have wondered how high one would have to get to see over the trees.
This image was taken from a 30 ft. elevated tripod and much to my chagrin is still not high enough (I think I need another 100 ft. !!).

This was the only half way decent shot I got of a black bear during my visit to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There was a huge "bear jam" of cars. I pulled my car off to the side of the road (legally) and jogged over a tenth of a mile to get to front of the jam. The bear turned into the woods, which is where I photographed it. As the bear approached, I would move back and aside to keep distance, but the folks with cellphones kept moving closer. That's just dumb! Light painted still life with antique microscope. Seems appropriate with all this talk of a vaccine. With massive thanks to the inimitable Ian Coombs for the loan of the microscope and various objects.
A very nice lady that I chatted with for a while while I was out looking for birds on Wiley Road in Carden. We were swapping stories and she told me her dream was to see a Loggerhead Shrike ( the bird I photographed a couple photos back). This endangered species had eluded her for years. She had never seen one before and had come here for many years looking for one. This made me even more thankful that I had got to see 2 of them after searching for them for 3 years, myself!

To me, this image represents a major struggle of our information age, the search for light and truth. An effort that should be at the top of our list of concerns, challenges, and strivings!
With most Eurasian forces defeated, after the success of Operation Cetshwayo, the UFA thought that they would have almost no problems clearing out the remaining pockets of resistance. They were wrong, the African states that still had large Eurasian presences, were able to equip resistance members, and soon more conflicts would appear in Africa. After the breakout of fighting at Kinshasa’s Chinatown, the Congo became a hostile place, with the new forces of Eurasian fighters battling the local forces.
The UFA particularly targeted slums towns and other poor areas, where Eurasian loyalists usually gathered, using the broken down buildings to stage weapons, and plan attacks. The slums around Kinshasa’s Chinatown were a popular place for sympathetics to the Eurasian cause. This caused many UFA soldiers to be sent there. Within weeks, parts of the slums had become ridden with bullet holes, and dead bodies from all sides, even the occasional citizen who was caught in the crossfire. On one such skirmish, a group of well equipped Eurasians had been seen near one of the murky green, polluted swaps near a vast section of ruined buildings. One of the local UFA commanding officers sent a small group consisting of 4 men, to investigate.
It was after dusk, when the first gunshot rang out. One of the less armored UFA reconnaissance officers, screamed out in pain, and slumped down, almost dead. From behind a curve in the path, the three Eurasian soldiers approached, with the one who had undoubtedly killed the reconnaissance officer, leading the other two. He was the first to die. The other Eurasians crept back a bit, while the other two UFA troopers came up behind the one who had just shot the lead Eurasian dead. While only outnumbered by one, and with superior gear, the Eurasians now crept forward, aiming their guns….

This African Crowned Crane just wouldn't give me a good pose with his face showing! He's still a gorgeous thing, with those beautiful feathers. This one was captured at the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida.
Mahamuni Pagoda, Mandalay, Myanmar, March 2013. I found this novice monk seeking alms at the beginning of his day and so I passed him a 1000 Kyat note (approx $1) and took about 8 pictures of him. At first he smiled for me but the smile gradually disappeared and at the end he rewarded me with this piercing - no nonsense - stare.

The Heart Seeker - Mural at Vorador's Mansion.
The Heart Seeker - also named the Heart Puller - is the name of the weapon hold by the Ancient Vampire warrior depicted on one of the murals in the vault of Vorador's Mansion and also in the Fountain Room leading to the Water Forge in Legacy of Kain: Defiance.
This is a personal version of the mural.
