Stawell's two tallest buildings, the town hall and the local Uniting church were the only parts of the town above the fog on this chilly mid winter morning. Taken from the Big Hill lookout that lies just to the northeast of the main town, this view is looking south and west toward the Grampians Ranges which are just visible on the horizon. The single clear line across the top is the main Adelaide to Melbourne highway and I am guessing that the steady stream of trucks and cars would be keeping it a little clearer. Also, the road itself is just a little bit higher than the surroundings.

The time on the town hall clock was ten minutes to eight (just in case you are trying to zoom in on it!)

Seek the light is a title from the Waterboys! I was walking across the beach and noticed this small cave in the cliff face was flooded with late evening sun, so guessed it would be a good vantage point!

Or do goats really grow on trees?

Spin me round again and rub my eyes.

I'm sending warm wishes to all of you this holiday season. Here's to finding light, love and peace on Earth...and good will to all.

After months without rain, a violent hailstorm over the hills of Soave, Veneto, Northern Italy. Looking toward the Illasi valley from Castelcerino.

Five minutes later, we were engulfed with hailstones the size of golfballs, but had the time to seek cover.

The Seeker explores the boundaries between the earthly and the celestial.

By stripping away physical detail into a stark silhouette, the subject becomes a universal symbol of aspiration. Captured mid-flight against a brilliant solar corona, the composition utilizes vast negative space to examine the solitary journey toward enlightenment, truth, and the overwhelming power of the natural world.

A singular silhouette cuts through the deep, celestial blue. It rises not just into the sky, but directly toward the blazing heart of the heavens. The sun dominates the frame like a cosmic eye. It casts a brilliant, ethereal ring of light that ripples outward into the atmosphere.

The bird glides with effortless grace, perfectly balanced at the edge of light and shadow. It evokes the timeless myth of Icarus eternally drawn to the sun's majestic, untamed power.

The frame relies on a strong two-element dynamic: the radiant sun on the left and the avian silhouette on the right. This creates a balanced visual weight, where the viewer's eye naturally cycles between the light source and the flyer.

The vast, deep blue sky acts as expansive negative space. It emphasizes themes of isolation, immense scale, and freedom.

The bird is positioned traveling right-to-left, heading directly toward the light. This narrative path gives the composition a sense of purposeful forward momentum.

The photographer chose to expose for the highlights (the sun), which intentionally underexposes the bird into a crisp silhouette. This strips away identifying details of the creature, turning it into a universal symbol of flight.

Shooting directly into the sun has created a massive, soft halo and lens artifacts. While purist landscape photography often avoids direct flare, here it functions as a painterly element that adds atmospheric texture and a dreamlike quality.

The image is heavily reliant on a cool, high-saturation blue palette. This contrasts sharply with the warm, white-hot center of the sun.

The sky features a beautiful transition from a pale, overexposed center to deep, vignetted indigo edges. The wispy clouds at the bottom break up the solid color, adding a necessary organic texture to the lower third of the image.

This image is a compelling high-contrast nature photograph that borders on fine-art abstraction.

"The Seeker" focuses entirely on the subject. It transforms the bird from a simple animal into a character on a deliberate, profound journey toward the light. The bird is angled cleanly and purposefully toward the center of the sun. The title perfectly matches this strict, forward-moving visual momentum. It invites the audience to ask questions: What is it looking for? Is it chasing enlightenment, freedom, or an escape?

Yuki and I play hide n seek. Of course I have to be the one to hide every time but Yuki loves searching all over the field until she finds me. I wait until she's distracted and then I jump in the tall grass and give a quick whistle. She knows what to do and the search begins. A treat is always waiting when she finds me.

These little guys are all over the boardwalk, they stay away from the humans for the most part. This one in particular was playing a little hide and seek, but I keep waiting for him to try to sell me insurance.

We seek them here,

We seek them there,

We dream of footwear everywhere

what a blessing to have so many great artists at my fingertips! i have been very unsettled of late and luckily a bunch of flickr buddies posted water pics today. so i am throwing this one in for solidarity. the sight and sounds of water comfort me. how about you?

On a grim, dreary day, a touch of sunlight lit up this tree hidden among the conifers. The low light just screamed to make this monochrome. Taken deep in Hillock Wood, Princes Risborough. Hope you enjoy.
