This is a favorite spot for the Red-bellied Woodpeckers. The hollow in this dead branch must contain treasures to seek, because they spend a lot of time pecking away at this section of the tree.
This is a female, as seen by the patch of gray at top of her head. A male would have the red patch extend all the way over its crown.

A Meditation on Life’s Journey.
Navigating through life is more a matter of asking the right questions to the answers you seek.
Not all answers give the complete truth, if that question is vague or hesitant.
Often considering the question in full before asking opens up doors to inner truths that you were withholding from yourself.
The answer will come unbidden, all you have to do is recognise that truth.
Typically, Gerard used a very sensual image, that of a ripe berry bursting with fluid full in the mouth, to describe how Christ’s instress, once acknowledged, could flood and change a person: “How a lush-kept plush-capped sloe / Will, mouthed to flesh-burst, / Gush!—flush the man, the being with it . . . / Brim, in a flash, full!—Hither then, last or first, / To hero of Calvary, Christ, ’s feet— / Never ask if meaning it, wanting it, warned of it—men go.”
-A Heart Lost in Wonder The Life and Faith of Gerard Manley Hopkins, Catharine Randall
Rest yourself on this wooden bench surrounded by wild flowers, Common Mallow in this case.
Common mallow is a handsome 'weed' of waste ground, roadside verges and gardens. Its deep pink, stripey flowers provide nectar for insects throughout the summer. ... Common mallow is a handsome, large, spreading plant with beautiful deep pink flowers that appear from June to October.
Light Seekers ..that was in my mind when trying to create this one. Sometimes we feel lost in darkness but eventually we all seek for light..

As I fear war and nuclear holocaust, I read; And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet! Mat. 24:6. Then we may take comfort regardless of intention.
As I walk along the deserted beach
I feel the damp sand surronding my feet
I feel the cool relaxing breeze creep up upon me with ease
As I look out at the restless waves my thoughts unwind like restless days
The beach is a very quiet and calming place

Cows seeking shelter from the snow under some bushes and trees, all huddled together. Seen in our local nature reserve "Gemene Weidebeek" near Bruges.
What are you looking at? I actually don't know who's watching whom in this picture. Perhaps you can tell...

BNSF 6572 steadily crawls up the east slope of Providence Hill, one of the major obstacles on the railroad's Lakeside Subdivision.
The sun has set, and only the glow of the cloud line to the west shares any light on the scene. In the distance, the rolling hills between Lind, and Warden WA stretch on further than the eye can see. Mostly adorned with ryegrass and sage, some of those hills seasonally host crops of wheat, cultivated with dryland farming.
Other than the occasional vehicle of a farmhand traversing the county road, the only sound for many minutes was that of the four cycle GEVO prime movers roaring. The head end has just passed the former control point of Providence, and will crest the summit of the grade out of the right side of the frame.
The photo title is the same as a magazine article from the 1990's on this section of line. My memory fails me on recalling the author or publication, though I have a feeling it was Pacific Railnews, or CTC Board. A photocopy of that periodical accompanied me on my first visit to this line thirty years ago. On that day, much the same as on the day of the image above, very few trains ran until the evening hours, followed by a nearly nonstop parade through the night.
Lonely Wolf Seeks Adventurous Red Riding Hood
Tired of prowling through the woods alone. Seeking one daring, cloak-wearing risk-taker who doesn’t mind a little fur and fangs.
About me:
- Strong, independent, and howls at the moon for fun.
Excellent sense of direction (unless there’s a woodcutter involved).
- Has all my own teeth
- Enjoys long walks through the forest, sneaking into grandmas’ houses, and howling meaningful ballads about life’s mysteries (and maybe an occasional hunger pang).
About you:
- Loves the color red, because I can’t resist a bold fashion statement.
- Enjoys surprise visits to Granny's house—bonus points if you can bake.
- Must appreciate a wolf with layers: I’ve got a wild side but also a soft side (especially around cuddly grandmas).
Let's skip the huffing and puffing, and build something real.
You bring the basket, I’ll bring the charm.
Swipe right on this Big Bad Wolf—promise I’m mostly harmless. ;)
