Following flowering,seed pods develop, containing one or two seeds. Seeds often have a papery wing to allow them to be carried by the wind .The majority of grevilleas rely on seed germination for their continued survival.
I was looking for birds in the trees and these seed pods caught my eye. I thought as long as they were dressed in their spring colors they were worthy of a couple pics.

No idea what this plant is, but what an amazing natural structure! There were many like it around, most without the "puffs" and all between 3-4' tall. Absaroka Mountains, Oct. '13
Though Black Henbane is a noxious weed, the urn-shaped seedpods fascinate me. This plant only reproduces by seed and one plant can produce 10,000 to 500,000 black seeds that are scattered when the thickened lid of the seedpod pops off!
It's such a rare thing to be able to harvest seeds from the garden here. Usually it rains non stop this time of the year and all the seedpods rot. Now we still have almost 20 degrees and sun.
