We don't normally start anything indoors. We don't really have the space, and we don't get enough direct sunlight (our windows look onto our balcony, which has an overhang). But after such a long winter, we're bound to have a short growing season, so we decided to give it a try.

These little basil seedlings came from some basil I got in a grocery store. You know the kind you get in a little plastic box? Well, I rooted that sucker (without any rooting hormone, by the way) in some soil and let it go to seed when it didn't grow very well (it got kind of leggy and weird). After we came back from our honeymoon, it had little white flowers for days. I was just like; "Eh, screw it, I'll stick it outside." After the flowers dried up, I harvested the seeds carefully and planted them...VOILA! Free basil seeds.

Found the seed tray and planted them. The roots had pierced through the paper towel! Roots are strong!
