In Times Square, perhaps more than any other place in the city, our movements are being recorded a hundred different ways: from a few stories up the side of the Bertelsmann building, from inside the plate glass of the Bank of America branch, as we pass through the turnstiles of a subway station, at the point of purchase in seemingly every store.

Security cameras are a crucial part of our daily life like our home, office and commercial area security. without security cameras, you can't fulfill your proper security. Security cameras are very basic and important part of our security.
In North Carolina our ice cream store enjoy high security [at least 3 cameras per door]. On the other extreme our banks get only 1 camera
for the whole building.
Adjacent to where we three males were hanging around waiting this very lunch time, there was a new childrens' play area under construction. Has society really become so bad that this small development requires the presence of three 'security' cameras. Woe betide us had the place been open and any one of us strayed inadvertently into their gaze.
Just maybe, they're there to protect the new equipment, but I doubt it.

I was never a huge fan of the NYC subway system. After riding the tube on our trip to London, all I wanted to do was pack the Underground up in my suitcase and bring it back to the states and show them how efficient public transportation can be!

A frontal view of the Ueno monument, located outside Ueno Station in Tokyo, Japan. The monument commemorates a famous song and features a detailed bas-relief of a C62 steam locomotive arriving with people. The ground is wet, reflecting the urban surroundings under a large overpass.

I don't smoke. Tried it once in my teens and thought it was revolting. Never have since. Never wanted to. Hate the smell of it on my clothes. Hate the smell of it on other people's breath, clothes or hair.
That's just me. Other people disagree. Fine. That's for them to decide. I'd just rather be elsewhere when they smoke. No more drama than that. (Although quite clearly, lots of people, apparently including all of government, do want to make a big drama out of it, and to use it as an excuse for lots more Regulations with a capital R.)
However, we're constantly being told that the NHS is strapped for cash, and that we have to ration care provision for various groups of the sick and elderly; so I find it very hard indeed to imagine the justification for spending good money - and probably quite a lot of it - on, not one, but FIVE cameras just to watch the entrance to the hospital site.
OK, I know. They're doing more than watching for smokers having a crafty drag within hospital grounds. But if somebody upstairs wants to save him- or herself the hassle of explaining policy to the discontented, it might have been sensible either to
(a) tone down the poster or
(b) locate it other than directly above five security cameras.
... unless, of course, they don't feel that they have to give explanations; which I would find worrying in itself. Maybe that makes me a malcontent. (Yes, probably a fair enough assessment ...)
While in the checkout line at a local grocery store, I realized I could see at least a dozen "black bubble" cameras from where I stood. There are military installations that don't have that many security cameras.
This is a shot of the area behind the checkouts. Over my left shoulder there are at least six more cameras over in produce, to say nothing of how many there must be up and down the aisles.
The funny part is that none of them seemed to have caught the guy who was standing in the produce eating his way through the store's grapes. =)
