Green aircraft engine developer ZeroAvia is to establish a major manufacturing base in Scotland, creating around 350 jobs.
Scottish Enterprise has awarded a grant of £9 million to the project, building on an earlier £20 million investment in the company from the Scottish National Investment Bank. The grant will unlock significant multiple investments from ZeroAvia as it develops the facility and operations, with the company targeting a multi-billion pound global export market.
First Minister John Swinney visited Glasgow Airport to meet with ZeroAvia and partners supporting the project and Scotland’s green aviation agenda.

Greater Manchester Officers are continuing to crack down on crime in Piccadilly Gardens, securing dozens of arrests and working with partners to reduce anti-social behaviour and drug use.
In their latest day of action, which was conducted on Wednesday 21 May, eight people were arrested as officers tackled issues that have been raised to them.
This included five arrests and charges for begging, in addition to those for public order offences, and being concerned in the supply of drugs.
More widely, the city centre neighbourhood team has continued to arrest those suspected of criminality whenever they can: 93 people have been arrested for a variety of offences in the area since the beginning of March. In that same period, 384 people have been stop-searched.
The positive work follows on from Operation Vulcan’s stint in the area, which has built strong foundations for the local neighbourhood team to act on.
While the area provides a unique challenge to officers, work with partners and local charities is ensuring that the appropriate actions are taken at the right time.
This includes engagement, support, and enforcement for those who commit crime. This approach sees vulnerable people signposted to the charities and services that can help them in their situation.
Wednesday saw much of this engagement work completed in conjunction with partners, who attended from a wide range of teams and bodies. This included representatives from the local council, immigration officials, charities, and a mobile paramedic.
Work will continue in the Piccadilly Gardens area, with a dedicated team overseeing its policing, backed up by response and specialist units where necessary.
Superintendent Nicola Williams, from the city centre team, said: “We are aware of the challenges that Piccadilly Gardens can present and through a comprehensive strategy of work with partners, we will continue tackling these issues as we build on strong foundations laid by the Operation Vulcan team.
“We have already seen so many arrests, charges, drugs seized, and more as we continue to take action in the area, ensuring criminals know that they simply cannot operate here.
“While we will continue with our enforcement work, liaising with partners where appropriate is a key part of our approach to Piccadilly Gardens – a joint-approach, measured, and with the right resources at the right time.
“If you are a resident, work in or near to the area, or pass through please do get in touch with the local team with any issues you may have. This could be via our local Coffee with a Cop meetings, the Piccadilly Ward PACT meeting or just chatting to an officer on the beat. All your information assists in our work.”
You should call 101, the national non-emergency number, to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response.

The bronze statue that once stood atop the Pitt County Confederate Soldiers Monument is secured for transport as the sun begins to rise on Monday, June 22. Crews worked throughout the night to disassemble the monument while hampered by equipment issues; the remainder of the monument was removed on Tuesday evening. Work was performed at night to prevent interfering with traffic, court proceedings, and businesses in the Uptown area.
On Monday, June 15, the Pitt County Board of Commissioners voted to relocate the memorial due to threat of vandalism and concern for public safety after property damage occurred during rioting in the Uptown area two weeks earlier. Following the vote to relocate the monument, County Commissioners created a committee to select a new location for the statue, which has not been determined at this time.
The monument was formally dedicated in November 1914; various groups have called for its removal from the courthouse grounds since at least the 1990’s.

The barbed wire is because of the new central station that's under construction. The sky was pretty special this morning, with lots of cotton way up high.

The Secure Social Rehabilitation Unit, or SSRU, is a program at Jefferson City Correctional Center in Missouri designed for offenders who are unable to appropriately function in general population settings due to mental illness and who require additional security. In December, the SSRU held a Christmas sing-a-long, and on that very same day, an offender graduated from the SSRU program as he was preparing for his release. Though shy, the offender wanted to say a few words when he was recognized for his graduation. He specifically called attention to Corizon Health reentry staff, who were in attendance, and thanked them for all of their help, adding that there was no way he would have been ready without them. Matt Sturm, Division Director for the Missouri Department of Corrections’ (MODOC) Division of Offender Rehabilitative Services, added his thanks by saying, “Obviously, your [Corizon Health] folks had worked hard for him and with him to secure his transition to the community. Thank you.”
George Lombardi, MODOC Director, added to the kudos by saying, “That effort [SSRU] is simply outstanding and has been over time.” In an email to Corizon Health leadership, Elizabeth Atterberry, Regional Behavioral Health Director in Missouri, also says, “I was also present at the graduation and was moved to hear the offender express his appreciation for the staff.” Ms. Atterberry also gives a shout-out to the team at Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center (FRDC) who work with offenders who are first entering the MODOC. It was the staff at FRDC who provided badly needed medical and dental care to the recently graduated offender, as well as the referral to the SSRU. “The director is spot-on when he says that the SSRU team has been consistently outstanding. Thank you everyone for the strong teamwork and collaboration that has contributed greatly to this man’s life.”
