My Mom picked this table up somewhere - maybe at an auction. It's currently sponge painted with a quilt motif on top - not exactly "me", unless we time warp back to the late 80's.
I started priming it yesterday. I'm not sure what I'll do with it, but I think the top will get mosaiced.
For any of you who have painted furniture, I do have some questions for you:
1) If the paint I'm covering is oil-based (I have no idea what it is), and I'm trying to cover with water-based primer, will there be problems? If so, will the problems be obvious right away, or will I have time to paint the entire thing and put it in my living room before the bubbling and peeling starts? ;-)
2) Should I sand the surface a little bit before I start priming?
3) Is it normal to have to add a few coats of primer? I thought I'd get better coverage with one coat.
