Logline: Political polar opposites, a theme-park designer in Orlando and a Beverly Hills attorney try to keep a black 14-year-old out of adult prison for his self-defense shooting of a Proud Boy.
Book description
With the success of their first theme park in Southern California, the giant conservative media company Dextra Media begins creating a second park, located in Orlando, FL.
One of the lead designers of the park, Leith, is a workaholic and mostly stays submerged in designing his area of the park with his team of designers. His workaholism is so serious that it was responsible for the breakup of his marriage a few years ago. He's started dating again, a woman named Erin whom he met while working on the California park. She is as politically liberal as Leith is conservative, and Leith wonders how a bipartisan relationship like theirs can work. He frequently encounters her different views on current issues and tries to understand how she can hold the views she does. She is a successful attorney who has developed the skill of unobtrusively leading a jury to change their minds on a topic, and on occasion Leith finds himself drifting from conservative red on the right, starboard, to an independent purple in the middle, in spite of his resistance.
A large group of politically conservative investors periodically convene to approve developments in the park as it progresses. When it becomes known that in the design team are a closeted gay man, an otherwise conservative young woman who is staunchly pro-choice, and a design lead dating a liberal, the investors apply pressure on the studio head, Dex, to root out the liberal influence in his design team, on occasion threatening to pull out of the project.
Dex's vision for the new park is for it to appeal to as wide a demographic as the Universal and Disney parks do. As a result, some aspects of the parks are more liberal than one would expect from a conservative media studio. One of the themed lands of the park is based on Mombasa, Kenya. Another land, based on 18th-century Boston, presents a truthful portrayal of slavery in that era. The Orlando branch of a white nationalist group begins vandalizing those parts of the park, and as time passes the vandalism escalates.
A black family becomes friendly with Leith and Erin because they assume that Leith is as liberal as Erin. Their young son, Jake, is almost killed by a stray gunshot when a race-related fight breaks out near him late at night in downtown Orlando. He recovers from the gunshot wound, but the experience subtly affects his personality and view of the world.
You've heard of "gun porn" and "torture porn." This is "gun torture porn." In the wake of Katrina the New Orleans PD illegally confiscated many firearms, and left them to rust and worse.

It is an insult to the wisdom and virtue of our Founding Fathers to suggest that they would have embraced the NRA's radical interpretation of the Second Amendment.
