The grey seal (Halichoerus grypus, meaning "hooked-nosed sea pig")

In the United Kingdom and Ireland, the grey seal breeds in several colonies on and around the coasts. Notably large colonies are at Donna Nook (Lincolnshire)

The name is supposedly to be that of a ship called 'The Donna', part of the Spanish Armada, which sank off the Nook (a small headland) in 1588.

"Before the arrival of humans in New Zealand, the species bred around all the New Zealand mainland and its subantarctic islands. There are now established and expanding colonies around the entire South Island, on Stewart Island and all of the New Zealand subantarctic islands. There are also newly established breeding colonies on the North Island." - Wikipedia

Went to see the seals gathered at Donna Nook in Lincolnshire. It's the time of year the pups are born. This one was close to the fence separating humans from seals.

This isn't just any old waterfall photo and those black things aren't rocks, they're baby seals! In the winter months the seal pups travel the short distance up a creek to the waterfall to play and socialise and give their mothers respite, or maybe it's the baby seals wanting respite from their mothers - it was ironic we visited it on Mothers Day I guess :-)

As we walked up the creek (freshwater I must add) we saw many cute little seals playing in the small pools on the way but when we go to the main pool, there was a seething mass of them, too many to count and apparently there can be up to 100, it was just wonderful to watch but unfortunately very hard to photograph as it's so dark and they were moving so quickly.

The harbor (or harbour) seal (Phoca vitulina), also known as the common seal, is a true seal found along temperate and Arctic marine coastlines of the Northern Hemisphere. The most widely distributed species of pinniped (walruses, eared seals, and true seals), they are found in coastal waters of the northern Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the Baltic and North Seas.

The last one. For the moment, anyway! :-)

Took an Easter ride on the beach and there was this baby and Momma seal, took this with my zoom lens because there is a big fine and possible jail time if you get to close to them.

Seeing a seal was high on my bucket list of wildlife I wanted to observe in California. It was pure bliss to see so many in San Diego! I had a hard time leaving this spot, probably stayed for a few hours. Seals are so cute and entertaining. I love them. 💕

The second and third from the left, in the front row are the hottest! Love the shorts and boots ... it shows off their thick, hairy calves nicely.
