Laura made this nativity when she was in her Sculpy period back in elementary school. We get it out every Christmas. It usually gets a spot somewhere in the dining room.
Merry Christmas to all!
I’ve had these little guys finished for just a few weeks, but with classes starting this week I thought I’d take the time to post them. I believe the first time I heard about these creatures, known as Tardigrades, Water Bears, or Moss Piglets was on either Animal Planet, or the Discovery Channel. Fascinating little critters, if you are unfamiliar with them, take a look; you’ll fall in love with them too, I promise: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tardigrade
Anyway, this figure was sculpted with Sculpy clay and prepared for the molding process. I made a two-part rubber block mold using Polytek 74-30 Mold Rubber. The cast positives are made of Easy-Flo Clear Plastic, another Polytek product. From start to finish, the process from sculpting to the finished figure took about a week.
A new birth of wood and flesh.
Is it a new beginning or the same as before in a new skin?
I’m not too sure but personally I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt.
Creature kit with Julia Adams diorama. Base was extended on both sides to house both figures with super sculpy. Artifical florals were added with drift wood and plastic snake and lizard. The cave backdrop was added with a silver screen framing. A neon light encased in the back of the backdrop helps illuminate the entire back drop.
two part molds of the sculpy hands filled with latex... latex isn't great for molds - you can get a nice matte effect on the part that isn't exposed to air... but if you want to put the molds together then air can't reach it to dry it... takes 4/5 days to dry... sometimes more.
the round things are eyeballs... the iris part... I poured too much so I need to start with a smaller amount... then stick a print of an eye in each then top it up... then using white sculpy (or I might just add white paint to the resin) to make the eyeballs for Clara.... hope it works!
One of the rune sets I have made for sale.
These are not made from a mold. The clay is hand mixed, layered, and then rolled thin. Each rune is cut out. And then I begin the laborious process of adding the actual sigil to the blank rune. The sigils are made from strings of clay that I extrude through a clay extruding gun.
When designing these earrings I wanted the finish product to be simple, yet classic. Like something you would see a movie star wearing in an old movie.
These are hand made earrings sculpted out of polymer clay and hand-painted with Acrylics. They have been glazed to give them that finished look.

I've been working on these things off and on for a long time. They're looking pretty creepy right now.

He's about 8 in tall (10 in with the base)
Made by my lovely wife Jessica and myself. This is our first collab piece and hope you dig how it turned out.
We used colored pencil, graphite, little bit of airbrush gold leaf, pearls, beads, sculpy, adorned with Swarovski crystals. Oh yeah and peacock feathers too.
He also comes with a jewel encrusted Honey dipper ax septre that is not in the photo

Make a spiral cane and apply it to the base bead. Roll the bead to smooth out the canes and trim the ends. Put it on a bead mandrel.
Coat with a thin layer of liquid sculpy.
Bethlehem cheese stand by creche artist Bill Egan. Fontanini figure has been repainted. Cheese is made from Sculpy clay.
This little fella took me a couple weeks to complete. His armature was part of a “Vessel” project from one of my Industrial Design courses from the Fall semester last year. The wire form was originally a 1:1 replica of a “chocolate cup” I’d seen at the MFA in Boston. Having three curvy legs it naturally looked like a small creature to me which was part of the original vessel’s charm.
The little guy is sculpted from “extra-firm” Sculpy Clay which I painted and finished off with several real-life textures.
Staff is glass, with glass 'magical ice spheres' attached to a silver chain. I still need to figure out a base (I'm thinking white sculpy) to help it stand

The last assignment of the day was to physically change our original object into something different. I just thought of gumby's head not sure why. it was pretty random. i used my super sculpy clay.
Ah, the elephant head turned out ok too, but "George" is still my favorite :)
***Now I need to figure out how to attach the heads to the cake. My idea is to make the cake look like a wooden box ( I'll post a pic of the idea) any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! =)****
