Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! Today if ye will hear His voice, harden not your heart as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: when your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. (Psalm 95; 7b,8,9) I often when called to sing, sing the first part of Psalm 95 as a praise song and ignore verses 7b-11. I frequently think of the verses in Psalms pertaining to the Israelites as history and don't always stop to think of how they apply today!
2 Corinthians 3:17 (NIV) Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
I made this image twice: once with text alone, and once with a section of the typewriter included. I found it to be a much more effective image with more than just text.

4. SALVATION is by GRACE through FAITH in JESUS: God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT)
5. Accept Jesus and receive eternal life: If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NLT) But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12 NLT) And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12 NLT)

Prayerfully studying for the evening message, Pastor Calvin continues to read the Scripture.
This would be the day that the Lord, Christ Jesus, took the cross.
What is substitutionary atonement?
The substitutionary atonement refers to Jesus Christ dying as a substitute for sinners. The Scriptures teach that all people are sinful before God.
"What then? Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin;
as it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one; There is none who understands, There is none who seeks for God; All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, There is not even one.
Their throat is an open grave, With their tongues they keep deceiving, The poison of asps is under their lips; Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; Their feet are swift to shed blood, Destruction and misery are in their paths, And the path of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”" Romans 3:9-18, 23
The penalty for our sinfulness is death. Romans 6:23 reads, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
That verse teaches us several things. Without Christ, we are going to die and spend an eternity in hell as payment for our sins. Death in the Scriptures refers to a “separation.”
Everyone will die, but some will live in heaven with the Lord for eternity, while others will live a life in hell for eternity. The death spoken of here refers to the life in hell.
However, the second thing this verse teaches us is that eternal life is available through Jesus Christ. This is His substitutionary atonement.
Jesus Christ died in our place when He was crucified on the cross. We deserved to be the ones placed on that cross to die because we are the ones who live sinful lives. But Christ took the punishment on Himself in our place. He substituted Himself for us and took what we rightly deserved.
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” 2 Corinthians 5:21
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed” 1 Peter 2:24
Here again we see that Christ took the sins we committed onto Himself to pay the price for us. A few verses later we read,
“For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit” 1 Peter 3:18
Not only do these verses teach us about the substitute that Christ was for us, but they also teach that He was the atonement, meaning He satisfied the payment due for the sinfulness of man.
One more passage that talks about the substitutionary atonement is Isaiah 53:5. This verse talks about the coming Christ who was to die on the cross for our sins. The prophecy is very detailed, and the crucifixion happened just as it was foretold.
“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
Notice the substitution. Here again we see that Christ paid the price for us!
We can only pay the price of sin on our own by being punished and placed in hell for all eternity.
But God’s Son, Jesus Christ, came to earth to pay the price of our sins. Because He did this for us, we now have the opportunity to not only have our sins forgiven, but to spend eternity with Him.
In order to do this, we must place our faith in what Christ did on the cross. We cannot save ourselves; we need a substitute to take our place. The death of Jesus Christ is the substitutionary atonement.

God’s Glory Returns to the Temple
1 Then the man brought me to the gate facing east, 2 and I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. 2. The punishment for sin is death: When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. (Romans 5:12 NLT)

This is a close up of a box my Grandmother kept her handwritten notes of favorite Bible scriptures. One of my favorite things I received from her.

Confermato il suo genio pittorico a Córdoba, Valdés Leal si trasferì definitivamente a Siviglia nel 1656. Subito dopo, ricevette una delle sue commissioni più importanti: la decorazione della sacrestia del convento di San Jerónimo de Buenavista in cui episodi della vita del erano rappresentati santi e notabili religiosi dell'Ordine dei Geronimiti: in una lettera a un discepolo, san Girolamo stesso raccontò di aver subito orribili tentazioni durante la sua permanenza nel deserto. Having confirmed his pictorial genius in Córdoba, Valdés Leal moved permanently to Seville in 1656. Soon after, he received one of his most important commissions: the decoration of the sacristy of the convent of San Jerónimo de Buenavista in which episodes from the life of the saint and religious notables of the Order of the Hieronymites were represented: in a letter to a disciple, Saint Jerónimo himself recounted that he had suffered horrible temptations during his stay in the desert. The most common was the appearance of beautiful women dancing eagerly around him, the saint rejecting temptation by seeking refuge in the Crucifix. Valdés Leal perfectly captures the philosophy of this letter on this canvas. The kneeling, half-naked saint makes energetic gestures of rejection with his hands to the lustful women who appear behind him. The ladies dance and play instruments that the saint does not want to hear and focuses their attention on the crucifix that is presented on a rock, along with the Scriptures and skull that are its attributes. Valdés Leal uses a vigorous and quick brushstroke that does not contrast with the detail of the elegant and rich clothes or the description of the still life that appears next to the Saint. Also interesting is the description of the environment of the hollow where the saint lives, which reveals a desert landscape in the background.

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️
