At this stage, this installation (white PVC pipe and caulky/foamy stuff in between) seemed like it could be pretty much done. Cool effect, looks neat both from inside and outside the building - badabing, badaboom. Rumors began to circulate: "They're going to paint it black!" "How could they?!" As future photos will show, they did much more than paint the thing black, but the results were actually not as awful as we were predicting. I still like the simplicity of this one; the installations under Gabe's wing had a tendency to seem a bit additive. I haven't got anything really invested in simple "one thing does lots of work" concepts, but if nothing else they tend to win out on comparisons of budget.

One thing that's nice about the additive approach is that it has no hope of hiding beyond a "the script did it!" type approach: you're uanabashedly making conscious, sculptural design moves when you tack on additional fabric and so on. Potentially this gives much more ability to respond to how the thing is actually working out, and to go for the best effect (which is certainly the theme of all these things), rather than the one dictated by "the system."

This was created using the new Debs Bloomers and Michaels Flowers script. This was heart bouquet 2 in the Bloomers subfolder and I used one of my fractals for the subflame. This script is available here: www.jwfsanctuary.club/download/debs-bloomers-and-michaels...

The Bisotun Inscription, written in cuneiform script in Old Persian, Elamite and Babylonian, was comissioned by the Achaemenid king Darius the Great (Darius I, 550 BC-486 BC). Lying along the imperial road from Ecbatana to Babylon, in what is now Kermanshah Province, Iran, the inscription relates his lineage and his victories in defeating a series of rebellions. In the bas-relief, Darius I is standing at left. His right hand is raised and he holds a bow in his left. His left foot rests on the supine figure of the defeated usurper, Gaumata. Prisoners stand before him while a Faravahar, the winged symbol of Zoroastrianism, hovers overhead. The work of Sir Henry Rawlinson, an officer of the British East India Company in copying the texts in 1835 and 1843, led to the deciphering of the three ancient languages. Bisotun was inscribed as a UNESCO World Herigage site in 2006.

ABOUT COURTESY

--------------------------------------------

As in Victorian times, the precious, hand-lettered look of custom stationery is back in vogue. Enter Courtesy Script, my newest ornamental script typeface.

Courtesy captures the elegance and propriety of finely practiced Spencerian penmanship, in particular the Zanerian school. Its lowercase is notably understated, a simple monoline with very wide connections that ease readability. In the capitals, Courtesy adds variety in both the weight of the strokes, and in degrees of flourish — from merely fancy to over-the-top engrossery.

Based on an alphabet found in a 19th-century penmanship journal, Ale created hundreds of additional, stylistically complementary letterforms. Alternate capitals and lowercase letters, swashed lowercase forms, and ending and ornamental swashes; numerals, punctuation, and non-English and accented characters.

With virtually endless ways to customize its use, Courtesy helps designers create fluid, signature looks on stationery and invitations, book covers, fashion layouts, and packaging.

I love inspiration boards. I took my French Script fabric and covered a canvas corkboard and then added a shabby chic frame. The finishing touches are Vintage embellishments to hang words of inspiration.

My first try at constructing a script and alphabet... Interesting result, definitely a learning experience.

it reads:

"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood."
