scratching lottery tickets in idaho

HWW! There must be a whole story here. Someone painted the inside of the window to block the view. Someone else has scratched away part of the paint so that he/she can see out. A heavy drape has been pulled aside, so that the "scratch-a-view" can be used.

This is a window of an elegant old home, with a view onto its back garden and the Mulhouse section of the nice navigable canal and lock system which connects the Rhine and Rhone rivers.

Location: Mulhouse, Alsace FR.

Something a little different with this Kestrel, I caught her whilst she was scratching which makes for a more unusual pose I think.

Alaska is famous for the size and ferocity of its...biting insects (bet you thought I was going to say its bears) in the summer. In fact the mosquitos and marsh flies were not terrible for those of us humans who were variously prepared to discourage them. But in many of my bear photos the presence of these pests - especially the flies - is highly visible. They tend to go for the less furry parts of the face where they can easily access a sip of blood through the skin with little or no reaction from the bears. But once in a while, it became obvious a bear had an itch to scratch. Rolling in the grasses or sand served the purpose admirably. And adorably.

I baked this from scratch yesterday morning (5:30 a.m.) for the "gathering" we were going to have at our house that evening . . . I even baked an apple cake. Anyhoo, enjoy a slice or two . . . have a wonderful weekend to all my Flickr buddies and again, it's taking me awhile to catch up on your stream but I will eventually . . . thank you to those that have regularly visited my stream and for your comments . . . I truly appreciate them and I'll get to yours soon . . . ciao for now . . . off to the mall with AC . . . ;-)

So here . . . have a slice

I've never seen that ploom thingy on their heads like that!! I was a good distance so this is a 60% crop but still pretty sharp, not the best but it will work...

There are some places you should never scratch in public because you never know when a photographer might be lurking. Apparently this nutria didn't get that memo.

My Dad loves his head scratches, this is him giving back :)

I don't think I've ever uploaded any "cat" pictures, always thinking that they are a bit of a cliche. But I really like this shot, and decided to upload it for the 2020 "Your best shot" group :)

During the night we watched a couple of meteor showers - the Delta Aquarids & Capricornids. With just a crescent moon, the dark night shone brightly. I saw well over 30 streaks & fireballs!!

Using a freshly-downloaded Ap called Skyview Free we were able to identify many constellations and stars. Including one we thought might be a UFO, but turned out to be Vega.

I had bought a remote to aid in my first attempt at shooting star trails. But I stunk at it. Next time.

My lens cover was lost a couple of months back and I had just replaced it the day before. I guess somehow it fell off during the morning and voila, I discovered a couple of healthy-sized scratches on the glass of my best lens. Perhaps having all the gear freeze overnight had something to do with it. :(

Still, it was a lovely morning and we scrambled up to this summit before 7am to take in the fresh 360-degree views.
