I stripped the chrome from an old Revell turbine engine add-on I bought a model car swap/meet/show. It will be rearranged and continually added on to as I make progress.
I made up some cylinders for the arms, but I think anything to lift them will be too clunky, so they'll get rigged with sprue or wire later on.
This is my scratchbuild I.N.S.S. MacArthur, a spacecraft from the Larry Niven / Jerry Pournelle book "The Mote in God's Eye". It was signed by Larry Niven when I brought it to a convention.
Build update on the MU/TH/UR 6000 "MOTHER" Chamber for the Nostromo - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Rough images but they show the interior frame build (walls) is complete and I'm beginning to work on the ceiling. The flower-like design will be attached to clear acrylic so natural light can pass through. The ceiling you see in this image will drop much further down. More to come! :) #alien #nostromo #MUTHUR6000 #scratchbuild #modelbuild #diorama

Build update on the MU/TH/UR 6000 "Mother" chamber - Nostromo - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Completed the build of the chair and have started to add paneling and detail to it. Needs some repairs and additional sculpt work to the chair itself. The entire front console was made from sheet styrene. More to come! :) #alien #nostromo #MUTHUR6000 #scratchbuilding #diorama #weylandyutani

Okay, Iain Rice's plan shows elevated storage tanks. I scratchbuilt these, designing as I went along! Best use I ever found for some empty pill pots.

An idea I had worked out alright.. found these at my local hobby store. This is not actually mounted yet, it is sitting in place.
Since I've got a week off for projects er...revision..I've gone straight into cutting out the shells learning biology for my Portal Gun science revision
The trouble is, that the foam is about 75mm thick, and it's pretty hard to cut at that thickness; so I've been using a large serrated kitchen knife for the heavy work. I also used Bevbor's fantastic blueprints and vectored over the shells, then scaled them up to 1:1 in inkscape so that I can get a really nice accurate finish.
You may also ask "why are you using 3 blocks when the template fits on 2?" well mostly because it gives me a massive margin for error, which knowing me I'm going to need.
The tall silver buidling is under construction. It is a hybrid of the One World Trade center and the original design of the Freedom Tower before they cahnged it. It still needs its trim and spire. IT is 67 floors tall not including the spire and will stand at 980 scale feet when completed.

I have started scratch-building a sci-fi tank based on the design of Makoto Kobayashi's "C-Eyes" model from "Future Tanks".
I sketched the top-down template so I had an idea of what size I needed to cut styrene. I am not using the correct donor models (Tamiya 1/35 Crocodile, 1/48 Schwimmwagen, 1/48 Xabungle Hobuggy), just whatever I have in hand.

I decided to change the interior color to a tan instead of black. It was too dark and you couldn't see any details; now the rollbar will be visible, along with the added accessories. Right now the interior is much too bright and clean.. See the pastel chalks I grinded into powder and stored in the clear containers? Those are for weathering everything for a much more realistic tone.
