bang seats were donored by an RF-4C kit

This kit is an early offering from Hasegawa (C series) with raised panel lines and all the flaws that goes with it. Our local scale modeling club had a "3-tone camouflage" bi-monthly challenge. This is one of the entries.

I put in a lot of time and effort to upgrade the looks of the old kit. this includes re scribing some of the panel lines, creating a new front wheel strut, reshaping the nose, posing the canopies open, cutting out the air breaks et cetera. a donor bang seat was obtained from an Hasegawa RF-4C.

So much nostalgia...

Rear of missile tubes. I wanted this missile launcher to look as though it had been welded on in the field.

Just an update on stuff I've been working on in the basement. First try at a chain link fence still needs some work, but I am pretty hopeful it will pan out.

I finally started scratchbuilding one of my all-time light weight favorite 4x4's.. The Land Rover Defender 90/110/130. I took the best measurements I could off a 1/35 scale resin Defender 90 I bought a while back and created a simple Excel sheet to convert them to 1/25, 1/24, and 1/1 scale (all in CM for sake of convenience). As I made the measurements I transfered them onto a 1/25 scale diagram of the side to get an idea of what I was looking at. Satisfied with the general proportions, I continued to transfer the diagram on to .030" styrene sheet; this is very thin, but makes cutting the sheets much easier. Later I will add bulk and support, for now I need to tape the main panels together and be sure I'm pleased with the results. At the time these photos were taken I had only completed the basic shape of the front-clip and dropped it on a 1/25 AMT/ERTL Jeep CJ5 'Swamp Rat'. Again, I'm fairly pleased with the results at the moment, so next I'll start working on the doors and rear section of the Defender. I haven't decided for sure if I want to build a D90 or D110 just yet.. It's possible I may build a 110 WOLF XD with WMIK (weapons mount installation kit) used by the British Armed Forces in Iraq.

Added some spice tanks and filled in the nurnie pit on top. I may have got the nurnies the wrong way around, which will mean covering up or removing the nice grill to make more space for the cockpit.

My never-ending quest for an HO scale fertilizer plant continues. I've made a bit more progress and now have the basic leg (bucket elevator) for the tower built along with the tower itself. I know the distributor is out of place, and I still need to add ladders, another service platform, a motor, belt guard, and downspout. The only factory item on this build so far is the platform and railing around the platform, everything else is fabricated from styrene shapes and sheet. This is a very time-consuming project, but also a lot of fun!

I was approached by 5 Wits Attractions to design and build a custom version 3 dimensional model of the classic nautilus submarine featured in Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues under the sea, to be displayed in the museum of their interactive attraction. The design would incorporate interactive lighting and would be approximately 4 feet long.

I wanted to keep with a more organic and streamlined shape though with a bit more grounded in reality design for a submarine. In the original story Verne's description of the sub was more like a Narwhal whale, as such I had always envisioned it to be more like a whale shark. I believed this design would be able to better camouflage into the ocean, while being a perfect design for ramming ships with it's dorsal fin.

My only limitations with this design were the placement of the windows, diving bell and latches which had to mimic the placement in the already built attraction at 5 Wits. The model was scratch built using foam, Worbla, resin, wood, and plastic and is lit by LEDs.

Russ Reinberg, publisher and editor of the Fine Scale Annuals, likes to work in larger scales where he can really enjoy the results of his labor. This scratch-built logging disconnect in 1:32n3 is a fine example of his work. Russ helped to develop the AAR:32 (Proto:32) standards for three-foot models in this scale.

Russ was our guest on Episode 15.

Here's the semi-finished product. I chopped up the first plastic one I made and used it as feedstock for these. There are more than 70 individually cut and fitted parts on this thing. The wheels and tires are factory, from my scrap box. I kind of like it.

Quick Sunday update on the MU/TH/UR 6000 Chamber - completed the sculpt to the overhead section of the entrance way using Aves FIXIT. It's a solid block...was thinking of building a styrene frame to sculpt over but I had some older FIXIT I had to use up so what the heck...it worked out just fine. Still have padding to complete - hope to get an hour or so to complete that tonight. Threw the chair (still a work in progress) in there for the second shot. Another of the many projects on my desk.

I may use the driver figure from Dragon's DML M-274 Mule (Vietnam series) for this model instead of the upright motorcycle driver. I like the lower stance of the driver and vehicle, it just looks more stable.

Thanks to a tip from Futch, BK, and kylwell at www.makzbv3000.com I've chopped up a ping pong ball to make some hip armor for a Krote I want to customize with some Kuster features. Thanks guys! (I should have figured these were from ppb's!) The strip inside the larger armor plate is a thin strip of styrene.

Thank God for Letrapens! :D

Left: Shadow Link's sword;

I'm lumped with this now, but we thought it best to finish it through to the end. What's in the picture is about 4 coats of "Montana Gold" silver spray paint, unfortunately it showed up the small dents and chips in the surface, but we had a problem when fixing them because a) wood filler not drying b) me being impatient

SO now I've gotta clean up the surface even more. Oh well, lesson learned.

Right: (top) ASHPD barrel components;

Ay these sections are made of about a billion parts. The back barrel (which will hold all the 'lectronics) is composed of 1 HIPs plate covering, 1 MDF front plate, 3 MDF ribs, and 1 acrylic backing plate which the handle will sit on. These are all held together with threads cut to 170mm, which in turn are fitted with 16 locknuts which in turn hold the ribs in place. The backing plate is then held on by 4 washers and 4 wingnuts, so that it's easily removable.

The shell had to be remade because the original didn't fit the barrel assembly, so this time we started by carving out the inside and only then attacking the outer shape with a large, heated knife and a surform.

A Grandt Line Porter locomotive spots a car at the tipple on Russ Reinberg's On30 layout. It will come as no surprise that most of the structures on the layout are scratch-built, considering that Russ is publisher and editor of the Fine Scale Annuals.

The posts and top rail for my next section of chain link. Took about 45 minutes to cut and solder this up. This is the easy part, gluing on the tulle and getting it straight and relatively snug is more difficult.

Build progress of the Narcissus Shuttle - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. So much progress but still only scratched the surface. Worked primarily on the wall panel for "The Stowaway", building the details around the slumbering beast. A mix of scratch building using styrene sheet, sculpting using a two part epoxy and casting replication. Nothing is finalized of course, even the side tanks are held in place using some wax clay...I need to construct t a rack. So much more to go. I may begin building the framework leading to the supply closets and the airlock before moving onto the next project in progress (figure sculpting). Hope you enjoy the progress so far!
