1/20th scale full scratchbuild of a fictitious flying machine inspired by Kow Yokoyama's SF3D/ Maschinen Krieger universe. Built 1998-2007 by Mark Stevens. Body is a mix of Vacform plastic and fibre glass over a carved wooden former. Found/recycled objects to add detail.
Build update on the MU/TH/UR 6000 "Mother" security corridor - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Sometimes the build requires creating pieces not seen and are made to simply give stability and bring together various parts of a diorama. Although the ceiling of the security corridor contains some detail, the main build of the frame's purpose is to plug in and hold the walls together. Nothing really fancy to show and I haven't added the ribbed detailing but hopefully you can see the progress I'm talking about. I've also included and exterior of the build from the MU/TH/UR entrance from the bridge, leading to the computer's chamber or "womb" as Sir Ridley Scott liked to call it. Looks a little similar to the actual stage build. I plan to create a nice "shell" that will cover this exterior build which will resemble the exterior of he ship and give that much more stability to the diorama. More to come! #alien #nostromo #MUTHUR6000 #diorama #scratchbuilding #diorama #corridors
Quick Sunday update on the MU/TH/UR 6000 Chamber - completed the sculpt to the overhead section of the entrance way using Aves FIXIT. It's a solid block...was thinking of building a styrene frame to sculpt over but I had some older FIXIT I had to use up so what the heck...it worked out just fine. Still have padding to complete - hope to get an hour or so to complete that tonight. Threw the chair (still a work in progress) in there for the second shot. More to come! #alien #nostromo #MUTHUR6000 #weylandyutani #scratchbuild #model #diorama #avesstudio #FIXIT #sculpting
This is the first of 6 pics of a scratchbuild/kitbash I did for a Friends' kid.
It was really enjoyable and surprising how easy it was to make something from old kit parts and stuff from my spares box.
Painted and weathered, I then built a "launch pad"/display stand, and added lots of decals from old unused sheets.
He loved it!
I hope you do to!

Fleet / Reg: 51 (SND 551X)
Chassis: Bristol LHS6L
Body: East Lancs B28F
Model: Scratchbuilt by ME!
Notes: This is a model of the second of an unique pair(!) of LHSs delivered new to Rossendale. These were the only two examples of this chassis / body combination.
This pair were regular performers on the route between Rawtenstall and Cowpe, which just happened to have a fantsatic pub at the time!
This is my first attempt at scratch-building and I am rather pleased with the outcome. The parts used for completion were: - Fanfare Wheels, Mark Hughes seats, wipers and mirrors and Frank Howard's Rossendale transfers.
POSTSCRIPT: Received first prize at the 2013 MBF AGM show for best in class.
Got a bunch of work to catch up on....(just a sample)....*note - I don't pile my work up like this....just for a photo effect LOL!
The cargo containers/toolboxes/storage on the side and back are from a 1/35 Tamiya Sherman tank kit.
Nostromo Wall Panel/Corridor Portal - ALIEN79 - 1:18 scale. The plan is this....I was able to scale a line drawing of the panel wall I found on the RPF forums. I plan to trace the piped pattern using rolled Aves FIXIT sculpt - one strand at a time. Will take awhile but the outcome will be worth it....especially once molds and casts have been made. #nostromo #alien #corridor #avesfixit #sculpting
Finished off the chassis for now, with steered bogie and hydraulic rams fitted.
The round piece is just sitting on the front but I quite like the idea of using it. And the Flak 43 ammo makes nice tines for the business end.

Command Unit of the Großdeutschland Panzer Battalion during the 1947 Warsaw counterattack.
This variant, also known as "Jagdgunther", is equipped with two massive 128mm Pak 44 guns. What kind of inertial dampeners uses to fire such oversized weapons remains a mistery.
Recovery of an operational Jadggunther is top priority for all Allied Forces.
Build update to the MU/TH/UR 6000 chamber or "Mother" to the Nostromo crew - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale scratch build. Frame is primarily complete, with some additional structural pieces to be added, I'm ready to begin detail...panel by panel, square by tiny square. Also need some sculpting details to the portal. Talk about a test of patience.....oh well, I made this bed so I might as well sleep in it! LOL! - I'm actually going to begin work on the chair first, then a few panels...the I'm back at working on figures...I got some new ideas I will be sharing shortly as well as returning to some other, unfinished pieces that require my attention. Need to shuffle the deck every once in awhile. #alien #nostromo #MUTHUR6000 #diorama #scratchbuild #aliens #weylandyutani
Looking rubbishy now..but I have high hopes for this.
The old front panel somehow got seperate from the rest of the pieces so a new one had to be made up. It's glued sticking out somewhat with a gap for filler to make the curve round the corner to meet the side. I'm confident this will turn out better than my PMT Knype (seats are slowly being glued in) and will hopefully be done in the next couple of weeks. It is made from a paper bus net found on the internet, re-scaled and printed out and stuck onto some card (2 pieces stuck together). The front has a thickness of around 5 pieces of card(!).
An inbound Ft. Dodge, Des Moines & Southern freight with caboose #096 on the rear rolls into their Ft. Dodge, IA yard, past a pair of resting GE 70 tonners.
This view was taken on Mike Porter's HO scale layout. I had taken this shot, as I had just finished up the model of the 096 for Mike, and I figured I'd do a little bit of work to the photo to make it a bit more era-appropriate. The car started off as a Walthers CB&Q caboose, but a bunch of Evergreen styrene, Tichy windows and other parts transformed it into this particular car.
This Duple 320 is a scratchbuild I acquired some time ago; unfortunately I don't know who built it but it captures the appearance of the 320 far better than the Pirate kit. It originally had a crude balsa wood base which I replaced with the chassis and interior from a plastic Cruiser Coach before liverying it as Langston & Tasker's E590 PFR.

SYTs Dodge Reeve Burges body 134 is seen in Pond street bus station when new, a possible scratchbuild project im thinking...?
All photos in this set are pictures I've acquired through a lot of searching and researching for a model scratchbuild. I want to get these out to anyone who may be interested, and I take no credit for taking any of these pictures, nor building the models seen here.
Here we are, final photos as I said. You can see the cable for the LED trailing out the back of the TARDIS, this is because it's a push-to-make switch and so I had to hold it down to get a shot with the lamp on. As I've said, this was a gift for a friend for his Doctor Who fanseries; the model is build almost entirely out of balsa, with the handles and lamp cage made from wire, the top of the lamp cage made from a Lego 1x1 circular stud, and windows and signs made from printed card. In total it took 4 days and £9.23 in materials.
The height (so you can get an idea of scale) is 200mm, which apparently makes this a 1:15.4 scale model.
Anyone interested in blueprints, FM me etc.

Timbertracks Signal Box built similar to St Erth for a 1980s/1990s look.
Lots of scratchbuilding details such as guttering, pipes etc. full interior added using severn models etches and 3d prints from ebay.
Tried to get some ok looking lighting and spoke to a signalman who informed me that he liked to only have a small lamp on when working at night. So this box has two functions - full illumination and desk light only.
Lots to finish off.... like point rodding!
Project scratchbuild !
This is a new venture for me one that i have given a lot of thought..Scratch building , allthough ive put together a little minibus just to get the feel of things..
Working only from 6/4 photographs i have come up with this plan, a 1/76s Northern Counties Dennis Dominator ( SYPTE 2311 - 2320 A3.. XAK ).
A rough outline is seen here and although im " a beginner " it may go my way it may not on the other hand ?
Im using Slaters 30thou plastercad
1/20th full scratchbuild based on a scrap hoover. The other half was used for the Schwebefestung. The 'Geist is a hover truck with a suit recovery crane and a basic workshop inside the hull .
The Falcon in the background is a project that will be added to the list for my Rennies fleet. This is a metal and card model built by Alan Johnston. In the foreground is a Leyland Fleetline, built to a lower height entirely from plasticard. The builder's initials - FJC - appear on the base, but I have no idea who FJC is / was. It never got finished; indeed, the entire offside is still white. It has been 'claimed' by someone who has grand plans for it, and the cash from its sale will be re-invested in models for my Rennies fleet.
Needs another coat of yellow, and my cobbled together wheel/tire assemblies are a little shady, but still, fun from the scrapbox!
Although I do not longer play W40K, I always have been a sucker for the Ultramarines chapter.
When I bought the Marneus Calgar miniature from the old Rogue Trader era , I discovered that "Ultramarine" no longer meant cool.
That was REALLY shocking.
However, Ultramarines do not admit defeat, so I turned it into a joke diorama.
The diorama is quite old, but it is still very popular among my friends. ^_^
This is probably the best showcase for the chipping on the model. Really pleased with how the two-toned chipping came out.
I was approached by 5 Wits Attractions to design and build a custom version 3 dimensional model of the classic nautilus submarine featured in Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues under the sea, to be displayed in the museum of their interactive attraction. The design would incorporate interactive lighting and would be approximately 4 feet long.
I wanted to keep with a more organic and streamlined shape though with a bit more grounded in reality design for a submarine. In the original story Verne's description of the sub was more like a Narwhal whale, as such I had always envisioned it to be more like a whale shark. I believed this design would be able to better camouflage into the ocean, while being a perfect design for ramming ships with it's dorsal fin.
My only limitations with this design were the placement of the windows, diving bell and latches which had to mimic the placement in the already built attraction at 5 Wits. The model was scratch built using foam, Worbla, resin, wood, and plastic and is lit by LEDs.

Here is a scratchbuild by me of a 9.4m wright cadet for the crossways fleet. It is awaiting fleet logos and will be used on a new haresfield, stroud and gloucester service. It looks much better in the flesh I must say! The story is that it was bought new and then stored until 2009, so instead of a 55 plate we really have a 59 plate here for the price of a 55 plate making it a bargain! Better than my first half hearted attempt but still not all the way there...
