Nostromo build update..."Mother" Security Portal - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. "Security Portal" - it's the doorway section with the supposed scan that lights up allowing access to the "Mother's Womb" as Ridley Scott likes to call it. The first section of the corridor that leads to the Nostromo's master computer - a work in progress. I realized it's a tad taller than it should be...not much of a concern. Had to compensate for making the entrance from the bridge a tad too large. Still works smile emoticon
SO MUCH DETAIL into what I thought would be a simple panel wall. The more I studied the photos however, the more I realized just how much attention was given to every corner of these stage designs. Brilliant and insane.
One day soon I will master LEDs and how to wire them appropriately. Knowing that, I decided to create the doorway using clear acrylic as the frame. This is so I can add LED panels to the exterior later and recreate the lighting effect. Currently, the light is emanating from a handheld LED light...but even this offers an awesome effect. Next step is to sculpt the padding to the interior of the doorway, add a control panel then begin to build out into the small security corridor. #nostromo #alien #mother #MUTHUR #mastercomputer #weyland #dallas #tomskerritt
The first scratchbuild of my new basement. Not sure where it will end up, like many of my other projects there is no plan. This one might just have some type of interior as well. Compare to www.flickr.com/photos/look4trains/6304106209/in/set-72157....
Could it be? This project has progressed to the point where I can start painting it?
I will almost be sad when I'm done fiddling with this thing. Hopefully I don't screw it up with the airbrush.

I was approached by 5 Wits Attractions to design and build a custom version 3 dimensional model of the classic nautilus submarine featured in Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues under the sea, to be displayed in the museum of their interactive attraction. The design would incorporate interactive lighting and would be approximately 4 feet long.
I wanted to keep with a more organic and streamlined shape though with a bit more grounded in reality design for a submarine. In the original story Verne's description of the sub was more like a Narwhal whale, as such I had always envisioned it to be more like a whale shark. I believed this design would be able to better camouflage into the ocean, while being a perfect design for ramming ships with it's dorsal fin.
My only limitations with this design were the placement of the windows, diving bell and latches which had to mimic the placement in the already built attraction at 5 Wits. The model was scratch built using foam, Worbla, resin, wood, and plastic and is lit by LEDs.

1/20 scale SF3D/Maschinen Kreiger style scratchbuild inspired by the works of Kow Yokoyama, most notably the Gradiator/Gladiator, Kafer and Sturm-Kafer
My rough scratchbuild based on Makoto Kobayashi's "C-Eyes". Note this is not intended to be a replica as I am not using any of the correct donor kits.
The turret is turned to the right and the gun barrels are aimed at about a 35° angle.
More work completed throughout the weekend. Most of chassis is glued together, only seperate from the nose/main body. I have not yet begun to add bondo to the rear chassis.
WIP Eldar Avatar. Scratch build over a action figure skeleton. My interpretation of the classic GWS Eldar Avatar from warhammer 40k. In the old classical Avatar pose.

My first attempt at creating an HO freight car from a pile of plastic for sale signs. I printed the decals, still need some more. Factory parts are trucks, couplers, and ladders until I can knock some together. Obviously I need to work on my design skills but it's pretty rewarding to make something like this.
These are one of my favorite coal cars and there is no commercial model available.
I decided to change the interior color to a tan instead of black. It was too dark and you couldn't see any details; now the rollbar will be visible, along with the added accessories. Right now the interior is much too bright and clean.. See the pastel chalks I grinded into powder and stored in the clear containers? Those are for weathering everything for a much more realistic tone.

Scratchbuilt hoverbike, made from household junk and white DAS clay. 1/20 scale, kind of Maschinen Kreiger.
It has taken a while to get to this stage but all the cutting, fettling and fiddling has given us the bit of Aberdonian texture that I was really keen to achieve.
Sadly the photography really shows up the mis-alignment of the stone blocks on the end wall but these things are all part of the learning curve and something I'd take more care with next time.
Latest work on a proof of concept tower for an NP trestle. This one is an improvement over the last version. This is completely made from .010" styrene sheet using a Silhouetter Cameo craft cutter and plastic cement.

This is a 1/24 scale scratchbuild of "Albert", the 1953 Albion Chieftain in the Fagan & Whalley heritage fleet.
The build was guided by a simple outline chassis drawing and dimensions from a sales brochure and photos provided by F&W.
