I like the interplay of wedge logos as a GP38-2 in fresh shiny paint pulls empties from Rengo Storage. I stopped at the Kwik Trip for coffee and a donut while I waited.

We took the plans from the Babylon 5 Security Manual (VERY invaluable for ref pics too) and got them blown up to A1 size.

As you can see they haven't fared well since we started the model back in 1999!!!

Although it might be hard to see, it's littered with measurements and notes that we jotted down while working on the model.

Many a time when we came to a detail that was too small to figure out on the plan and then we'd rush off to the videos (YES, VIDEOS!!!!) to find that necessary shot.

I'll have to get this framed one day.

They need a bit of weeding - removing fibres which point the wrong way - but otherwise I think I can fit the knights.

I added greenery, cleaned up and gave everyhing a layer of Dullcote. Then stippled the middles of the pipes with Tin Bitz and Boltgun Metal sparingly, before sponging on some Agrax Earthshade.

the oil stains are layers of Agrax Earthshade (matt and gloss) and Typhus Corrosion.

Nostromo build update..."Mother" Security Portal - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. "Security Portal" - it's the doorway section with the supposed scan that lights up allowing access to the "Mother's Womb" as Ridley Scott likes to call it. The first section of the corridor that leads to the Nostromo's master computer - a work in progress. I realized it's a tad taller than it should be...not much of a concern. Had to compensate for making the entrance from the bridge a tad too large. Still works smile emoticon

SO MUCH DETAIL into what I thought would be a simple panel wall. The more I studied the photos however, the more I realized just how much attention was given to every corner of these stage designs. Brilliant and insane.

One day soon I will master LEDs and how to wire them appropriately. Knowing that, I decided to create the doorway using clear acrylic as the frame. This is so I can add LED panels to the exterior later and recreate the lighting effect. Currently, the light is emanating from a handheld LED light...but even this offers an awesome effect. Next step is to sculpt the padding to the interior of the doorway, add a control panel then begin to build out into the small security corridor. ‪#‎nostromo‬ ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎mother‬ ‪#‎MUTHUR‬ ‪#‎mastercomputer‬ ‪#‎weyland‬ ‪#‎dallas‬ ‪#‎tomskerritt‬

Scratchbuilding a Ma.K Cerberus (not replica)

This is the first time I have built a modern scratchbuild. Prior to this photo the sides were copied from a scale drawing and then cut out of plasticard. When all the sides were cut out they were stuck together and this is the state you see them in. Next stage is sanding and filling

This is my scratchbuild I.N.S.S. MacArthur, a spacecraft from the Larry Niven / Jerry Pournelle book "The Mote in God's Eye". It was signed by Larry Niven when I brought it to a convention.

I stripped the chrome from an old Revell turbine engine add-on I bought a model car swap/meet/show. It will be rearranged and continually added on to as I make progress.

Some small progress on the old canal basin - with the lock entrance getting a greyboard mock-up. Should look good when it's been covered in DAS modelling clay, shaped and scored. There is a fair bit of that still to do in cobbling the canal paths and hard standing outside the buildings.

.. and some messing about in Photoshop with ideas for a backscene

Well the Shadow Link's sword commission, although excessively cool, has turned out to be a complete waste of time as they won't pony up the material costs. I wasn't even asking for TIME costs, but hey whatever, I guess I now have a hench-ass sword to go on my wall.

Anyway, rage rage rage.

The ASHPD is coming along, with the back assembly half...assembled...which will hold all the electronics and the give support to the rest of the structure. Very unfortunately, I mis-sized the rear shell, and so it doesn't actually fit on the barrel parts, doh! So anyway I'm remaking that part tomorrow.

Well, my DIY record shop was getting claustrophobic, so I ended up rebuilding the interior (from scratch this time). I wanted to increase the dimensions so there'd be more room for records and displays. And, various figures would look better in a larger store. Next to the record shop is the Annex. This was influenced by the Rasputin Music Annex in Berkeley.

The general idea is that the main store carries rarities, and the Annex carries cheap records, just like real life.

I built the Annex from MDF hardboard, and ended up doing the exterior twice. The stores were designed to look very similar, with the Annex being a bit smaller. The exterior are hinged on opposite sides.

Been working on a place to unload some covered hoppers. Got a ways to go yet but this is better than my first effort. There is a lot of plastic and plastic cement under the hood on this one. I couldn't help but start on a blender tower as well. The elevator legs are still in the bag but I will nail one together soon.

Work in progress.. I'm surprised AMT/ERTL hasn't produced one of these. This is based on the "Dukes of Hazzard" CJ5 (which is incorrectly labeled as a CJ-7 on the box).

The top is going to be scratchbuilt using the clear plastic soft-top included in the kit, with styrene. I'm not sure yet what truck bed I will use or if I will just completely scratchbuild a new one. Obviously the chassis will be stretched properly. Should be interesting either way.

A demolished badly built kit, and some sundry items. All set to bash into a factory for the layout.

Build progress on the 1:18 scale diorama of the Narcissus Shuttle - ALIEN 79. As I said in the last update, I would begin working on the rear airlock section before moving onto other projects such as figure sculpting. Currently working on the entryway which will build out toward airlock door. This entire section will be it's own separate component to the build and the airlock will contain both it's interior and exterior detail. As you can see with this above shot, the main structure of the interior build is currently made up of 5 individual components. Will increase once I begin working on the forward sections. All this so far and I haven't even scratched the surface on heavy detail yet...gonna be a very unique piece when completed. ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎narcissus‬ ‪#‎nostromo‬ ‪#‎shuttle‬ ‪#‎lifeboat‬ ‪#‎scratchbuilding‬ ‪#‎modelbuilding‬

Build progress of the Narcissus Shuttle - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. So much progress but still only scratched the surface. Worked primarily on the wall panel for "The Stowaway", building the details around the slumbering beast. A mix of scratch building using styrene sheet, sculpting using a two part epoxy and casting replication. Nothing is finalized of course, even the side tanks are held in place using some wax clay...I need to construct t a rack. So much more to go. I may begin building the framework leading to the supply closets and the airlock before moving onto the next project in progress (figure sculpting). Hope you enjoy the progress so far! More to come! ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎narcissus‬ ‪#‎shuttle‬ ‪#‎diorama‬ ‪#‎scratchbuilding‬ ‪#‎sculpting‬ ‪#‎art‬ ‪#‎giger‬ ‪#‎aliens‬

Fleet / Reg: 51 (SND 551X)

Chassis: Bristol LHS6L

Body: East Lancs B28F

Model: Scratchbuilt by ME!

Notes: This is a model of the second of an unique pair(!) of LHSs delivered new to Rossendale. These were the only two examples of this chassis / body combination.

This pair were regular performers on the route between Rawtenstall and Cowpe, which just happened to have a fantsatic pub at the time!

This is my first attempt at scratch-building and I am rather pleased with the outcome. The parts used for completion were: - Fanfare Wheels, Mark Hughes seats, wipers and mirrors and Frank Howard's Rossendale transfers.

POSTSCRIPT: Received first prize at the 2013 MBF AGM show for best in class.

Build update on the MU/TH/UR 6000 or "Mother" Command Console Chair - 1:18 scale. Adding more detail, have plenty of sanding and some filling to do. Also some repairs to the chair itself but wanted to show some progress. The front half plugs directly to the chair via the arm rests. Very stable and balanced :) More to come! #alien #nostromo #MUTHUR6000 #weylandyutani #diorama

Build progress on the Narcissus Shuttle - 1:18 scale - ALIEN 79. Finally an update huh?! It's all about the storage doors...had to do some major updates to the doors after finding some reference material that gave me a better look at the doors details. Rewoked the door handles and the door's interiors. Also it's my first time building door hinges! Hinges work great, although not permanently attached at this time while there's so much more building to be done . The two small tabs venturing off the side of the door has small magnets to hold the door close. More updates to come! ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎narcissus‬ ‪#‎shuttle‬ ‪#‎nostromo‬ ‪#‎diorama‬ ‪#‎scratchbuilding‬ ‪#‎ripley‬

Lego Star Wars Space Tug with Barge and Payload

After presenting you first my Space Tug inspired by a scratchbuild by Adam Alpern aka @monsterpartywars, and my Front Loader, this is the final MOC with Barge and Payload!

As always, my MOCs cannot be small 😭, so one thing lead to another, and I ended up adding the Lego UCS AT-AT as payload.

The whole ship is made by the SoroSuub Corporation from Sullust. Again, this one is fictitious and non Canon.

Go and check out Adam's designs here on Flickr or on Instagram. His models in 1:144 scale are amazing!

Measurements

Length: 81.5 cm / 32.1 inch

Width: 24.0 cm / 9.4 inch

Height: 26.5 cm / 10.4 inch

Or:

Length: 102 studs

Width: 30 studs

Height: 33 studs

SHIPtember 2023

BTW - I just noticed, these 102 studs qualifies it to be part of SHIPtember 🎉, so I will be adding this to the group in a minute.

Wishing you all a great weekend 👍!

Its very late, need to go to work tomorrow, can't work anymore tonight.
