This complex work of art was created over a period of fourteen years. Hampton hand-crafted many of the elements from cardboard and plastic, but added structure with found objects from his neighborhood, such as old furniture and jelly jars, and discards like light bulbs from the federal office buildings in which he worked. Hampton selected shimmering metallic foils, purple paper (now faded to tan), and other materials to evoke spiritual awe and splendor. "The Throne" embodies a complex fusion of Christianity and African-American spiritual practices overlaying themes of deliverance and freedom . . . [From the text accompanying the Museum exhibit]

Made with found objects for butterflies, particularly hinges of all sizes (details for each butterfly in photostream), also including glass beads, stone beads, scrap wire. Screen is a welded piece passed down from my husband's g-pa's yard :)

Made with all things found: lids, springs, washers, nuts, bolts, fuses, scrap wire, utensils, saw blades...okay, there are some glass and ceramic beads in there too.
These are some faces that are going on a totem.
I think this is finished now. I added shading for the second cow. Trees line the horizon and embroidery detail throughout and a signature. I started the third in the series, and will try to post it tomorrow after its finished.

this is my pasture with cows collage or fabric quilt. I wanted to layer the leaves to give it some depth, and the cows were challenging. I am still working on this one

I used the salvege edge fabric names to name my little village of houses. I think it gives them personality.
