Mount Cook Aoraki National Park, New Zealand

The boardwalk through the valley towards Hooker Lake, with Mount Cook in the background. The winds here are very strong since the valley forms a natural wind tunnel. My Nikon D850 with the 14-24mm lens and filter kit took a tumble off the platform even though the rig was placed on up of a sturdy Really Right Stuff TVC-33 tripod. Fortunately, it landed on soft grass, so nothing was damaged.

The scintillating sunlight of the clear winter day illuminates the background mountainside as eastbound NS loaded coal train U52 marks the boundary across Knox Creek between the light and the dark, with the shadowed ground beneath strewn with trash and debris from recent deadly autumn flooding that struck Buchanan County. Taken on December 16, 2021.

There's one thing I adore at this time of the year: playing with light, creating abstracts and feeling the sparkling joy of it all!

In the middle of the picture runs the longitudinal dyke ('jetty') to keep the waterway free of mud.

Object mirroring on the wadden sea ground close to the horizon. A similar feeling like the Fata Morgana effect which normally mirrors objects on earth against the atmosphere.

Had a friend bring me into his residence at this iconic building, so I spent half a day photographing the interior. Light did not disappoint; except for the occasional clouds blocking the sun, I had pretty much directional light the whole afternoon and evening.

A panoramic view of stunning Marina Bay skyline as seen from the Marina Bay Sands Skypark.

Brought out the Irix 15mm for a test-run today, and headed to Chinatown intending to shoot the Marina Bay Sands light show from behind the skyline. It decided to rain anyway, but nature had a different kind of light show in store for me!

It wasn't supposed to be this clear. It wasn't supposed to be this warm. It was supposed to be below 0 degrees but we mercifully had 3-5 degrees up here. We barely made it up Karasawa Hutte past nightfall as the last group and missed the sunset. Still, the stars were aligned for this shot to happen.

Lugging both camera gear and camping equipment up the Hida Mountains. Skipping meals because we didn't have enough space to pack food in our bags. Fighting the autumn chill with what we thought was sufficient for the trail. Pitching a tent on rocky terrain in the dead of the night.

Did we actually conquer the elements or was nature kind enough to grant us the conditions we wanted? A week after this was taken, a snowstorm blanketed the higher parts of the trail in ice, making conditions extremely slippery for the uninitiated. For us who have never attempted anything more than a climb up Bukit Timah Hill, attempting this in such adverse conditions would be unwise at the very least.

I suppose a motivational quote of some sort, or a story extolling the strength of the human spirit, or something along the lines of Trying Harder would be used to end off a caption like this. But instead, I'll leave you with the Scout Motto:

Be Prepared.

Scouted this location ahead of sunset with a friend, before we drove down for the actual sunset! Glad we did, as we got a pretty unique angle over here as well.
