Colorful bokey behind my guitar

Once again wandering the backstreets of a strange town, really there are very few streets to wander in St Goar, there is the main street which is the highway running parallel to the Rhine and the Oberstrasse which runs parallel to this one block back and a network of intersecting short streets linking the two.

Being named after the patron Saint of Innkeepers St Goar is a most hospitable place and most of its economy it focused on the tourists that pass through this little gem.

Sankt Goar is great place to purchase a souvenir beer stein, styling clogs, or a cuckoo clock, in fact it has the largest free standing cuckoo clock in Germany but save your wine purchases for another location though a center for Riesling production it is one of the more expensive areas for the libation.

I took this with my D750 and Tamron SP 24-70mm 2.8 G2 Lens processed in LR, PS luminosity masks and DXO Nik

Disclaimer: Not trying to be realistic in my editing there is enough realism in the world, my style is a mix of painterly and romanticism as well as a work in progress.

The tradition of the Fathers has never admitted the existence of a material world apart from a larger creation, from a spiritual universe. To speak more precisely, for them the world, a whole and a unity, is inseparably matter and spirit. What we call the material world is only the reflection of a reflection. . . . It is, as it were, the fringe of their garment: the waves of its light are like the scintillating robe with which the Creator has been pleased to adorn his invisible creation.

Only after the invention of fire arms, Katz Castle had to be substantially reinforced. It was also upgraded as bastion against Maus Castle in the Electorate of Trier. At the same time the donjon of Katz Castle was raised to approx. 197 feet to ensure eye contact with Reichenstein Castle which is approx 1.9 miles away.

In 1479 the family line of the Counts of Katzenelnbogen died out. In succession of long-lasting disputes on heritage, Katz Castle and Rheinfels Castle were besieged, demolished, rebuilt and extended several times. Even though repairs had been made in 1800, Napoleon blew up Katz Castle in 1806.

In 1896 District Administrator Berg acquired Katz Castle, to reconstruct it as close as possible to the original design. From 1946 till 1951 Katz Castle served as local High School "Institut Hofmann" including board

Since 1989 Katz Castle is private property of a Japanese and accommodates the hotel Katz Castle.

Rauðasandur beach 20200806

Rauðisandur (Red Beach) is a 10 kilometer stretch of a beach on the south coast of the West Fjords (Vestfirðir) in Iceland. And, yes, the sand is red, at least in certain conditions. On sunny days, it is quite a sight to see as it scintillates like a shoreline covered in diamonds. Sunny days are by no means a constant in Iceland. But, don't let that stop you from going to Rauðisandur. This amazing beach is like an instrument being played by high and low tides as well as lights and shadows. The sands are equally impressive on rainy days, constantly changing colors from red to yellow to white to red to black – with amazing hues ranging throughout this magnificent display.

haha...no...the comics are not really from Archie...but they remind me of Archie!

St. Goar is a very small quaint town across the Loreley in the Middle Rhine Valley (Mittelrheintal) in the state Rhineland-Palatinate of Germany, with a lovely atmoshphere and pretty scenery.

This is home to one of the best places to buy a beer stein, clogs or cuckoo clocks. They have the biggest range of all three. Although not a very lively town, it gives off a very nice friendly vibe. It is definitely a true german town. This small town is great to experience the spirit and culture of Germany without the hustle and bustle of the big cities.

These Centurion Flies are really stunningly beautiful and they don't have their formosan name for nothing. And Chloromyia means Green Fly, a bit of a drab name for such a scintillating creature. Here it's balanced on the still green seed pods of Foeniculum vulgare, Wild Fennel.

Ah! There's so much to say about fly anatomy... But allow me just one remark. D'you see that little yellowish 'bulb' just under the wing? It's called a 'halter', and has evolved from what was once another set of wings - Centurions are of course dipterous today. You may have wondered how these insects - in particular hoverflies - can be so balanced in their often very steady 'holding pattern' and then dashing away in an instant. These halteres are part of that balancing system. Ah! Nature! or System! as a favorite poet of mine, Leo Vroman (1915-2014), calls it.

After a scintillating morning, clouds moved in, one settling along the ridge of the Ruby Mountains. This was a July wildflower trip, but snowfields, serving as time-release water, lingered to feed the streams.

I am going through my back catalogue to edit some fresh images to upload onto my website to promote my range of workshops for 2019.

I am currently putting together a three day residential Northumberland photography workshop for March 2019 when I came across this image of one of the most amazing sunrises I have ever witnessed.

I was all set up on the beach at Bamburgh waiting for the magic to happen when the sun quickly rose above the horizon just off to the right of the Farne Islands. I was mesmorised and as happy as a child on Christmas morning for I knew that I would capture something truly beautiful and having just found the image, I knew that I was right.

p.s. The colours are correct and have not been enhanced in Photoshop.

In spite of the many sudden rain showers, most of the day, a bit of sunshine now and then and some strong wind attracted 3 Australian Emerald dragonflies to our garden. This pretty lady elected to rest in front of a Rose and her golden, shiny wings caught my eye.

A real beauty, in my humble opinion… Admired at the Pool, Central Park, New York.

Scintillate, scintillate, globule vivific,

Fain would I fathom thy nature specific,

Loftily poised in the ether capacious,

Strongly resembling a gem carbonaceous!

When torrid Phoebus removeth his presence,

Ceasing to lamp us with fierce incandescense,

Then you illumine the regions supernal,

Scintillate, scintillate semper nocturnal.

The traveller on lustreless perigrination,

Gratefully hails your minute coruscation,

He could not determine his journey’s direction,

But for your bright scintillitating protection

My parents have a wonderful tree in their back garden. When the sun shines through its leaves, it becomes a scintillating and vivid kaleidoscope of colours and refracted light, and I am fascinated by it. I had a really good session with it this afternoon and the Ricoh GR1, shooting ‘through’ at f2.8 to create semi-abstract compositions; I’ll post some of the most interesting ones.

Unsociable and fierce, the Kingfisher devotes a large part of his days to monitoring the territory. It is most often observed whirling around, with a direct flight like a scintillating arrow, above the water, often stopping on favorite perches to visit its fishing grounds. Motionless on its perch, it scans the surface of the body of water, patiently waiting for prey to present itself favorably.

Image taken from the hide tent and in a natural environment.

PS: Many thanks to everyone who chooses to watch, comment and love my photos. It is very appreciated, as you noticed, I do not answer any more directly following your comment just to say in fact "thank you and good day", but in return I pass to leave a small mark with you on one or more of your editions. thank you for your understanding

The area around what is now the town of Sankt Goar was already settled in Roman times. The name in the Early Middle Ages was Wochara, after a short brook emptying into the Rhine here. The name by which the town goes today is from Goar of Aquitaine, who came to live on the site where the town now stands during Frankish, Merovingian King Childebert I’s reign (511-538). Goar came as a young clergyman (actually, a monk) from Aquitaine in the southwest of France and at first lived as a hermit in a cave on the Rhine. With leave from the Bishop of Trier, he worked as a missionary to the local people. He was well known for his great hospitality, particularly towards the Rhine boatmen. Later, he built on the site where the town now stands a hospice and a chapel.

Many legends gathered about him. After his death, about 575, Goar’s grave became a pilgrimage site and the place was named after him. Frankish King Pepin the Younger transferred the hospice and chapel in 765 to the Abbot of the Benedictine Prüm Abbey as a personal benefice. From this grew the Sankt Goar Canonical Foundation, witnessed as early as the late 11th century. The Catholic Encyclopedia notes that “a small church” was dedicated to Goar of Aquitaine in 1768 “in the little town on the banks of the Rhine which bears his name (St. Goar).” It is also reported that Charlemagne built a church over the site of Goar's hermitage. It is around this church that the town of Sankt Goar grew on the left bank of the Rhine between Wesel and Boppard.

This is how it looks at night...scintillating Singapore.

Count Wilhelm II. of Katzenelnbogen has built the Katz Castle in the second half of the 14th century. Katz Castle was used as bastion and military base to protect the Rheinfels Castle. Together they formed a fortified bulwark with a barrier for levying of the Rhine toll. The extended view up to the bend of the river at the Loreley was also of great importance to secure salmon fishing. Due to the intentionally chosen location on the mountain ridge Katz Castle could not possibly be conquered from the valley.

I went bowling with my son this morning, first time in 15 years. Dustin here was like, "So?!?"

He WAS kind enough to let me take his picture, but I didn't have to give the usual song and dance explanation. I asked and he said "Sure." He folded his arms and found something better to pay attention to while I took his picture. I thanked him and he said "Sure."

Scintillating conversation.

African Violet (Streptocarpus Streptocarpella Saintpaulia) is a small flower (as the name suggests) with numerous cultivars even non-violet ones like this. The reflective cells are adapted trichomes (hairs), apparently adaptations to make the flowers visible to pollinators in shaded locations. Scattered pollen indicates this one is open for business. In my kitchen in the hinterland of the Queensland.

Another in a series of Aurora shots taken last Thursday of a kp8 storm. Aurora's are always interesting to watch as waves of scintillating light dance across the horizon as they move noiselessly towards you. The raw act of nature taking over the huge view-screen we call the a sky in an awesome presentation of immense beauty!

A male Scintillant Hummingbird, the smallest hummingbird in Costa Rica - I believe - with males weighing 2 grams and about 2 and a half inches long. Tiny as they are they hold their own against the larger hummingbirds. These are endemic to the Highlands of Costa Rica and Panama. Very heavily cropped image.

This morning my yard turned into a magical landscape of shimmering light. :)
