The bridge is Chestnut Street, and the building on the immediate left is Philadelphia's main post office, the following building is 30th St. Station, Philadelphia's main train station, and the bright shiny building beyond that is the Cira Center. On the right is the continuation of the Schuykill Banks Trail.

Two "30s" on Reading & Northern PNWC tear the village of Schuykill Haven to pieces as they return to Port Clinton.

Reading and Northern local freight QADE (Tamaqua to Delano turn) has just finished their work at Stella Jones and is headed east crossing Morea Rd. at MP 4.6 on the RBMN's Reading Division - Morea Running Track. This rarely photographed branch is accessed via a 7 mile trip up the mainline to Haucks, then 6 miles up the Hazleton Line to Delano Jct., then reverse direction 3 miles to Morea Jct., then 5 miles out to this point high up on Broad Mountain. The elevation here is 1650 ft and amazingly less than three quarters of a mile to the north down below in the valley some 400 ft lower is the RBMN's Mahanoy and Shamokin branch thru Mahanoy City.
Those tracks far below are former Reading but up here on the mountain is former Lehigh Valley Railroad dating from before 1870 I believe, and in the last years of the LV this was designated the New Boston Branch. Interestingly the Pennsylvania Railroad also ran thru here as their Schuykill Branch connected with the LV in New Boston and they had trackage rights into Hazleton via this line and even ran a named passenger train from Hazleton to Philadelphia in the 1920s.
While the old Morea Colliery is but a memory Skytop Coal company up here still loads a car or two on occasion, but what sustains the line these days is inbound loads of poles for Stella Jones and pellets for Poly Plastics up the branch. Bracketing the train is RBMN 2012 on this end and 2011 on the rear. Both are EMD GP38-2s built with high short hoods for the Southern Railway in Sep. 1979 and Oct. 1976 as SOU 5256 and 5184 respectively.
One last cool item of note. See the large structure and smokestack on the right side of the frame? About 2 1/2 miles away, that's the 99 megawatt Schuykill Energy Resources St. Nicholas Cogeneration Plant. Built in 1999 it is burning the culm from the massive and long abandoned St. Nick Breaker which was once the largest in the world and stood until 2018.
