The Huntington Beach Historical Society is proud to host the 20th annual Civil War Days Living History and Reenactment in Huntington Beach Central Park on the 151th anniversary of the War Between the States. Civil War Days is a living history encampment and reenactment where Civil War soldiers will set up historical campsites and reenact various scenarios to demonstrate what life was like during the Civil War.The Huntington Beach Civil War Days Reenactment event takes visitors back to 1862.The Confederate and Union armies each have their own separate camps in Huntington Beach Central Park where uniformed soldiers go about camp life and also prepare for the two civil war battle reenactments that take place each day.Each Civil War battle reenactment has plenty of action including cannon fire, rifles, advances and retreats, flags, drums, and more.Following each battle is either a weapons demonstration or a pass and review of the armies in front of President Lincoln.About 20 minutes after each Civil War battle reenactment, President Lincoln will give his famous Gettysburg Address.

Maryland Natural Resources Police Basic Class 64 Recruits underwent Law Enforcement Emergency Medical Care Scenario Training. This training prepares police officers to respond to a range of medical emergencies. Recruits learned CPR, how to treat traumatic injuries, and other skills, and were tested by mock scenarios. Maryland NRP Reserve officers and cadets volunteered as scenario victims.

ACRL has released a new research report, “Futures Thinking for Academic Librarians: Scenarios for the Future of the Book,” to help librarians reexamine their assumptions, which may be grounded in the current e-book zeitgeist. Authored by David J. Staley, director of the Harvey Goldberg Center for Excellence in Teaching in the History Department of Ohio State University, the report is a companion to the 2010 report Staley co-authored for ACRL, “Futures Thinking for Academic Librarians: Higher Education in 2025.”
The report is freely available on the ACRL website.
Soldiers assigned to the 911th Technical Rescue Engineer Company participate in Rescue Stakes 2019 at the Asymmetric Warfare Training Center on Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, November 19, 2019. Rescue Stakes is a five-day validation training exercise to test teamwork and proficiency in various rescue disciplines while squad leaders conduct troop leading procedures and exercise mission command. Georgian military members and first responders respond to training scenarios of medical emergencies and render trauma aid to simulated casualties during Operation Georgian Shield in Batumi, Georgia. Georgian Shield is an interagency exercise conducted by U.S. Special Forces and Georgian agencies collaborating to train on modern trauma practices and advanced first aid techniques. Exercises such as this build interoperability between U.S. and partner nation forces and enhance the resiliency and hone the skills of the Georgian population to respond to crisis.
