A baby girl with the scared eyes

Thunderstorm time.

Julia: "I was scared. Very very scared"

Me: "Wasn't it fun?"

Julia: "No, not at all. It was too scary."

Me: "But Julia, you were smiling in this picture."

Julia: "I was smiling because I thinked there wasn't the bumps. The wavy bumpily bumps (wild hand motions). They were too scary."

This yellow-faced whipsnake found in Sundown NP yesterday did not like the look of us at all!

'Us' being the Stanthorpe Field Naturalist Club out on a walk to Ooline Creek.

The facial markings are characteristic of the species.

We went to Baghdad's Karada neighbourhood the day before Iraq's national elections. While the older kids didn't seem to mind - and some even posed - this boy started to cry after seeing me and the camera.

What we didn’t realize was that the Comet began with a 96 foot drop. As you can see, Molly got scared. But she recovered quickly and had a great time on the rest of the ride, smiling and yelling along the way.

I'm scared of something in the pawn shop.

A self portrait of me being scared. Or, maybe it is just a strange face?

Strobist note: SB28 bounced off an umbrella to right of camera. SB600 pointed on backdrop. Both triggered with ebay Cactus remotes.

I was on my way back home from my photoshoot when I heard crows croaking violently. I looked around and noticed a flock a crows pursuing the squirrel. There was a significant distance between us, but I used a zoom on my camera, and I was delighted it can focus so easily despite my numb fingers and shaking arms (it was a really cold, rainy day, 5 Celsius, and I was very cold while shooting).

The crows drove the squirrel up a tree and waited on the ground, croaking and looking at it.

Poor little guy, he was so scared when I took him to the vet's this morning. Today is the day for his neuter surgery. Wish him luck. I did sit with him a while after this and got him to calm down more. But I sure felt awful leaving him there. I should be able to pick him up later today.

Wishing everyone happy Lunar New Year!

With the lights off, the girls are scary, but with the lights on they’re just scared.

Lola and her big (littermate) Louie have been with me for almost 4 weeks and had their first serious spat today, complete with screaming and growls.

She escaped to this chair and seemed very upset. Just look at her paw with extended nails from scurrying up this leather chair (ouch)

Where did she come from? Jack doesnt know. But would he really want to question it?

Tourist horseback riders are hardly ever seen smiling. Mostly, they're just holding on for dear life.

As many of you have noticed, I have not posted many photos this month. The reason for this is that my wife caught bacterial meningitis earlier in the month. We didn't know for a few days which way things were going to go. I spent about two weeks at the hospital. It was by far the worst experience I ever had. My wife didn't recognize me --- and was in and out of consciousness while in ICU. The good news is that she finally came home and is now resting. She has been my best friend for over 20 years and to see someone that vibrant and full of life as close to the edge...is a very difficult thing. I appreciate all the support and love that our friends and relatives have given us over the past several weeks...we couldn't have done it without you...God bless ~ and be looking for more photos for the month of February!
