Richard is a royal python (Python regius), common called "ball python" in the U.S. He's a native of sub-Sahara Africa and is one of the most secretative and gentle snakes. Royal pythons grow to 4-6 feet in length. Scales best viewed large. Photo by Frank
These scales were made by Effem and are marked "Made in Western Germany US Zone," which dates them from 1945 to 1949.
Fan Mei, AAF Data Manager, is going through the daily routine of cleaning the laser windows of the HVPS (High Volume Precipitation Spectrometer) during the 2016 Holistic Interactions of Shallow Clouds, Aerosols, and Land-Ecosystems (HI-SCALE) field campaign at ARM's Southern Great Plans (SGP) site in Oklahoma. The HVPS essentially records shadows of large aerosol (such as droplets or ice crystals) that show up between its pair of windows.
The payload on the G-1
includes:
• high frequency meteorological and radiation measurements
• cloud probes that characterize cloud microphysical properties
• trace gas monitors that measure carbon monoxide, mononitrogen
oxides, ozone, and sulfur dioxide to help differentiate
between urban, industrial, and other air masses
• a Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometer to characterize
important trace gas volatile organic compounds
• a Fast Integrated Mobility Spectrometer, Ultra-High
Sensitivity Aerosol Spectrometer, Passive Cavity Aerosol
Spectrometer, and Cloud and Aerosol Spectrometer
• a Dual-Cloud Condensation Nucleus Chamber to quantify
cloud condensation nuclei concentrations, and
• a High Resolution Time-of-Flight Aerosol Mass Spectrometer
to characterize bulk aerosol composition and a compact
mini single particle mass spectrometer to characterize the
composition and size of individual aerosol particles.

Or putain alors even. This bijou springette has broken loose from the battery housing of the digital scales. I doubt my chances of soldering sprung shiny steel back into place so it looks like in future a bit of wedgery and hope will have to do. Even if I had bothered to register at the time of purchase I guess we've had these for longer than three years. They came via an e-bay reseller that's for sure.
A handy piece of kit nonetheless for the weighing of bicycle parts and the like with an accuracy of plus or minus 5 to ten grams or so depending on how heavy the object is.
I'm alive to the ridicule of measuring such such stuff when the rider weighs in at 85 kilos but hey.
The Eastman Kodak Studio Scale. I refinished the wood with shellac to be period appropriate using real shellac flakes and alcohol. The weights were perfect per my digital scale.
Well, here's a first look at the ICG Yard on my HO Dixon, IL, layout. No scenery yet, but some of the major structures set in place. And, yes, the track is nailed directly to the plywood with no cork/foam roadbed underneath since the ICG yard perpetually looked like it was sinking into the mud and weeds.
