Scaffolding is a temporary framework used to support people and material in the construction or repair of buildings and other large structures. It is usually a modular system of metal pipes (termed tubes in Britain), although it can be made out of other materials. Bamboo is still used frequently in Asia.

Was amazed to see no traditional scaffolding as I know it whilst visiting Hong Kong. All the scaffolding was made of bamboo, regardless of the height of the building being worked on.

I'm not sure why those planks are sticking out … makes it look like a spring board! We do have a swimming pool, but it's about 100 feet away, so they'll have to fly a long way through the air :))
This picture was taken on a pier in Virginia Beach. I believe they were constructing a temporary concert venue. A woman would call for "Two reds and two greens" (or something like that) and the vertical column of workers would pass up the requested pieces to the top.
I like this picture, but why this one would be my most viewed photo is a mystery to me.
I took a bunch of pix of this building covered in scaffolding, but I wasn't sure what to make of them. This is the best I came up with.
The building construction (and there is a lot of it here as Pune is growing by leaps and bounds) is done with cranes in general, but facing and other work is via bamboo scaffolding that may look a bit rickety, but is amazing in it's strength.
