Banner: Lent (2007)
“I thirst.”
Made by Linda Austin Mary Funke, Mary Lou Luebke, Sharon Thompson, Kay Walters, Grace Zielske.
The colors of the series of banners for Lent represent a life cycle: green (spring-new life); purple (flowers in bud), pink (flowers in bloom), yellow (faded flowers), tan (wilted flowers), grey (lifeless), and red (blood). The cross and the crown of thorns depict the crucifixion. The wording is the seven things Jesus said while he was on the cross. The Lenten banners were made in memory of Richard E. Zielske.

I was experimenting with a technique where I’d put translucent things on a glass plate in the sun, and then using a mirror I would reflect sunlight up from below also. This worked out well in this shot as seen in the green candies on the bottom.

The Savior said in John 15:13, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." This Memorial Day we honor those who had this great love and sealed it with their own blood. As I thought about these men, my mind was also drawn to others throughout history who also had this love and freely gave their lives for their friends and the cause of freedom and righteousness. Below are just a few to also remember this Memorial Day and everyday.

“When I Say I’m A Christian”
Made by Linda Austin, Jennifer Lemay, Sharon Thompson, Lynn Wagner, Grace Zielske
The idea for this banner came from an email. It deals with statements made quite often and references to Biblical principles.
In an aged picture I found, half hidden under a rock, there were two comrades in arms... or rather band-aids. For all the warriors, there are always those who save lives - and here they are. PostCon's medics!

"Onion domes are popularly believed to symbolise burning candles. In 1917, noted religious philosopher Prince Yevgeny Trubetskoy argued that the onion shape of Russian church domes may not be explained rationally. According to Trubetskoy, drums crowned by tapering domes were deliberately scored to resemble candles, thus manifesting a certain aesthetic and religious attitude." Another popular interpretation is that the dome represents the kingdom of God on earth, as opposed to steeples, which point towards heaven.
