Secretary Rita Landgraf joined Dr. Karyl Rattay, director of Delaware’s Division of Public Health, Dr. Nicholas Petrelli of Christiana Care and others in announcing the state’s latest cancer report for the years 2005-2009. At a press briefing at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center at Christiana Care, Secretary Landgraf said, “In Delaware, the trend is clear: We are saving lives.” Delaware’s cancer death rates decreased nearly 19 percent between 1995-1999 and 2005-2009, a decline that was 50 percent greater than the country as a whole. The lower death rates dropped Delaware to 14th nationwide for cancer mortality, down from No. 2 a decade earlier. In announcing the findings, Dr. Rattay said, “We are starting to win this fight.” Among the many challenges is the enormous role that lung cancer continues to play in Delaware’s overall cancer burden, accounting for almost one-third of all cancer deaths in 2005-2009. Dr. Rattay said Delawareans can lower their overall cancer risk by quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active, having a nutritious diet, and limiting alcohol use and exposure to UV light. She said the findings will help DPH, the Delaware Cancer Consortium and medical providers target their efforts going forward. Dr. Rattay was joined at a second briefing at Beebe Medical Center by U.S. Rep. John Carney, a member of the Cancer Consortium.

Since June I've made some changes in my life. I started to find myself again. But a few months ago I strayed and got lost again.
Pic 1 was taken 4/2005, #2 8/2005 & #3 2/2006 (today actually). There is a 25lb difference between pic 1 & 3.
Everyone I show this picture to says they don't remember me like the before pic (pic 1), and I tell them, "I DO! I used to see that girl in the mirror everyday and not recognize who she was..." Now I see my old friend in the mirror. I like who I see. She is a happier version of me. ~Amy

"Saving” is inspired by the changes my second oldest sister has made to save money for her bills. She is a single mum with a low paid office job who lives alone with her daughter in a council flat. She comes round for dinner after work at my parents house as a way of saving money to be able to pay her bills. Sometimes she takes some food back home with her. The background shows little food in her house to represent my sister trying to keep costs down.
