...I followed the sambar recipe at showmethecurry.com as closely as I could. Differences: I used different veggies (carrot, onion, zucchini, and peas), had no curry leaves, and used tamarind concentrate.
And though I would have preferred idli or upma, I made rice because that's what I had.
Result: FREAKIN' DELISH.

Jim Corbett National Park, which is a part of the larger Corbett Tiger Reserve, a Project Tiger Reserve lies in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. The magical landscape of Corbett is well known and fabled for its tiger richness. Established in the year 1936 as Hailey National Park, Corbett has the glory of being India's oldest and most prestigious National Park. It is also being honored as the place where Project Tiger was first launched in 1973. This unique tiger territory is best known as the father who gave birth of the Project Tiger in India to protect the most endangered species and the Royal of India called Tigers.
The sambar (Rusa unicolor) is a large deer native to the Indian subcontinent, South China, and Southeast Asia that is listed as a vulnerable species on the IUCN Red List since 2008. Populations have declined substantially due to severe hunting, insurgency, and industrial exploitation of habitat.
They are favourite prey of tigers and Asiatic lions. In India, the sambar can comprise up to nearly 60% of the prey selected by the Bengal tiger. Anecdotally, the tiger is said to even mimic the call of the sambar to deceive it while hunting.

The sambar was the largest variety of deer that we saw in Corbett National Park. Every time we saw sambar, our guide (Devi Singh) would announce, "Best food of the tiger!"

Can a diecast look so scrumptious that it looks good enough to eat? I'd definitely say so and its usually from the Tomica stable, a toy company who haven't lost their sense of character and novelty in the name of cost cutting.
This tasty Subaru Sambar Cake Truck is finished in friendly pastel colours with a cute La Patisserie livery and if Tomica had left it at that I would still be entirely satisfied. But of course they deliver more than expected, especially to a collector like myself used to basic mainline Hot Wheels and Matchbox, and underneath that yellow plastic box is a little plastic cake. You can add additional detailing to said cake by some stickers. I did buy a second example of this model and will eventually post a picture showing its rear load.
