...I made a batch of sambar today with various leftover veggies from the fridge and ate it with cumin rice with peas. It was wonderful, but I really need to get one of those idli maker things.

Idli is a traditional breakfast item very common in Southern India. It is prepared by steaming the batter made with rice and ulundu.

Sariska Tiger Reserve, being situated in an arid climate can get very dry and hot. Fresh leaves are not only a source of food, but also precious water!

Used pathiri flour for the dosa but the grinder conked, so the cooked rice went into the smoothie maker! Not the best bet for really thin crepes, but it tasted fine, and the hidden carrot-potato-peas inside were just so. And that chutney is a killer.

I wish I could say that this image is blurry because of the vehicle's blindingly fast speed, but the truth is I didn't notice that the focus point was set to the edge of the frame rather than the center. So the background is nicely focussed if you'd care to read the store signs. In any case, this Subaru is not routinely imported to the U.S. (notice the right-hand drive). The Marlboro and Motul paint on the van is a parody of those companies' more serious sponsorship of actual Subaru racing teams.

being on a bit of a 'fermented foods'-craze recently, i was really interested to hear that a lot of the things we were already eating were fermented. like this breakfast make of idli (the batter for the round white puffs is fermented) and sambar. and as usual: super tasty.

Can't afford that famous Volkswagen Microvan (although I don't know how you couldn't, they cost next to nothing!), then Subaru have you covered with this retrostyled version of their Sambar minivan.

As is the case with many Japanese car makers, their fascination with retro European cars such as the Jaguar MkII, the Mini, Rolls Royces and old Volkswagens, they always have a model dedicated to these machines of days gone by, but usually they're much much smaller and based on a Nissan Micra!

Can someone read the model of this looks like KV3?

Sambars are primarily browsers that live in woodlands and feed mainly on coarse vegetation, grass, and herbs. They are diurnal animals who live in herds of 5-6 members, grazing on grass, sprigs, fruit and bamboo buds.

An unsuccessful attempt at trying to give the latest Matchbox 2014 Subaru Sambar some kind of frontal detailing, it looks terrible without any! Loving its Japanese themed "Speedy Mail" livery though. One of several included in the 2022 Case C assortment. Mint and boxed.

Sambar is a vegetable stew or chowder based on a broth made with tamarind and pigeon peas, and is very popular in the cooking of southern regions of India especially in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Each state in South India prepares it with a typical variation, adapted to its taste and environment.
