A very last minute effort this evening, it had got to 23:45. I was stuck at work and the clock was a ticking. Luckily, some inspiration from several weeks ago re-struck. We have a coffee vending machine in the kitchen which is periodically loaded with paper cups by some solemn operative or another. At the top of each stack of cups is one "Safety Cup" which is left laying around frequently, quite who or what's safety it is there for, I have no idea. Amazingly, this is just lit by the ambient flourescent tubes above then treated to a few levels tweaks. Safe!
On 11-18-09 Los Angeles Fire Department quickly responded to Mulholland Drive just West of Skyline Drive shortly after 2PM, where a vehicle went 50’ down a cliff. Firefighters came to aid of an adult female trapped inside. LAFD provided treatment and hoisted her into a helicopter where she was taken to a local hospital in serious but stable condition. © Photo by Mike Meadows.
The other day we went to Tzfat, one of the four holy cities for Jews and the center of Kabbalah study. It was a grown-up trip. Petya rented a car, and we joined him. Tzfat is all about mountains, up and down, just like our Haifa. And lots and lots of Haredim—“those who tremble before God”—religious Jews. Yeshivas (institutions of higher learning in Judaism, where the Talmud and other traditional Jewish disciplines are studied, as well as preparing candidates for the rabbinate) are everywhere. Many young Haredi men with suitcases—they came to study.
We were, I believe, very lucky. We stumbled upon a wedding. I was hesitant to take photos. I suppose it’s a part of my current stage of growing older. But I couldn’t resist—I joined the crowd of photographers and clicked the button a couple of times. The bride was stunning.
The crowd was friendly. We went down another street because Petya wanted to visit a very old synagogue, the Abuhav Synagogue, with painted ceilings. We tried to bypass the wedding procession, which is no easy task in the narrow streets of Tzfat. And we ran into them again.
They were just entering the synagogue. We were invited in, too. Everyone was given a cookie.

The Safer Houses methodology is designed for community members. It is integrated into a Disaster Risk Reduction project. It is implemented during the prevention phase.
The objective of the Safer Houses methodology is to improve the knowledge of communities on how to reinforce wooden or concrete houses in the event of hurricanes, earthquakes and floods, through training and hands-on practical construction exercises.

Walking around Victoria's Chinatown yesterday, I stumbled across this antique safe at the end of an alley. What a lucky find, this is definitely off the beaten path.
I setup my tripod at its 2nd lowest setting and zoomed my 28-300mm lens to 50mm, using Live View to level my camera and set the composition where I wanted it. To maximize sharpness, I set my usual 2 second exposure delay, and triggered the shutter with my infrared remote.
Nikon D600 and Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens at 50mm, 0.8 seconds at f/7.1, ISO 200. Exposure and clarity adjusted in Lightoom 4.
