An Alabama F-16C taxis in front of Ukrainian SU-27s and MIG-29s, on the ramp at Mirgorod Air Base, Ukraine. This aircraft is the first Air National Guard fighter to ever land on Ukrainian soil in preparation for SAFE SKIES 2011, a joint Ukraine, Poland, U.S. aerial exchange event in Ukraine. As the sun began to set we scrambled back along the cliffs to get down to the boat and begin the journey back home. A great day!

On a previous occasion Pete took lots of flack for failing to turn up for a similar beach clean operation but he fully exhonorated himself this time. He was a complete superstar and not just for his barbeque skills....

With the last raised bed laid out we shared a warm beer and sat admiring our work as the sun set over Croatia.
It was thoughtful for Detroit to upgrade all the city sidewalk corners with ramps and the latest warning bump textures...even though there was little traffic, few pedestrians, no homes left nor any sidewalks to connect the corners :) These dis-connected corners have intrigued me for quite some time and I finally got around to photographing some of the most extreme examples this morning.
Just as they started excavating the footings (carefully designed to minimise earth disruption) a major storm system hit the region and everything collapsed. No option now but to dig it all out and construct wooden shuttering for the foundations.
