Day Sixteen:

Once upon a time there was a man who didn't want to be there. It wasn't the here he didn't like, just the there. For there was an unpleasant place filled will belligerent beasts and entitled entities. All of which made for a hostile experience of the there. And from there no escape could be found.

And so the man tried all he could to escape from there and return to here. The here was warm, the here was full of comfort, the here was a place of solitude where the things of the there could never find him and if they did he would have all the power in the land to smite them into oblivion.

But slowly the exposure to the there chipped away at him. Causing him to crumble away as pieces were carried off in the wind. The fight to keep himself in one piece was starting to falter as pieces became chunks. Exposing him to all the there and leaving him an empty husk that was in danger of being filled with bile and bitterness like the creatures of the There.

And he lived but no one was happily ever after in the There.

This rusting vintage car, abandoned in the heart of Namibia’s desert, tells a silent story of a bygone era. Once a symbol of elegance and adventure, it now stands as a relic of time, weathered by the elements yet still full of character. The sun-scorched metal and faded paint contrast with the deep blue sky, creating a hauntingly beautiful scene of nostalgia and decay.

Digging into my archive photos of 2009 here's another shoot of this amazing looking '51 Nash Canadian Statesman Airflyte. Personally I think this is probably my best find of 2009.

Well... I was hoping to get out and shoot on this first day of the new year, but we're getting hit with the second consecutive day of snowfall here in the nation's capital. So the roads are not in the best of shape and with no snow tires on my car I'd better just stay off the roads and stay indoors.

UPDATE!!! February 21, 2010.

I wanted to go back and re-shoot this car over the past weekend.

As I was getting closer to the location I noticed a car hauler heading towards me on Hwy#7, (I was east bound back to Ottawa) to my surprise this car was sitting on the back. First words out of my mouth F#@*!!!!

Oh well, I just hope it's not being scrapped and someone is going to re-store it.

This is a 3 shot HDR.

It's amazing what you can find when all you need to do is just ask.

I've driven past this property so many times that I've lost count. But when you have a good friend who's not at all bashful and has a saying "if you don't ask, you don't get". So a big thank you to my good friend Terry and the very kind couple that own this farm in Eastern Ontario for allowing me the privilage of photographing many rustic vehicles on their property.

this was definitely a change from my usual alley walks!

this space still had power, but was completely empty and just rusting away.

Wow! what a car this is, I'm thinking it's a '51 Nash Canadian Statesman Airflyte. The condition is pretty good and would definitely be a grand refurbish. Any takers?

This rusting, abandoned Jeep, half-buried in Namibia’s desert sands, stands as a haunting relic of adventure long past. With its frame corroded by time and the harsh elements, it tells a silent tale of exploration, resilience, and the relentless passage of time in one of the world’s most unforgiving landscapes.

An old 240 left to die alone. Looks like it was running not long ago. Maybe it could be saved?

Left to the mercy of time and the relentless Namibian sun, this abandoned vintage truck stands as a testament to a bygone era. Rusting amidst the arid landscape, it tells silent stories of past journeys, long-forgotten roads, and the slow but inevitable reclamation by nature.
