On the outskirts of Havre, Montana are these two old, rotting cars that look like they have been parked there for many years. I finally had the courage to photograph them.

There are a lot of old, rusting cars like this scattered all over Montana. I do like photographing them. These in particular had a spirit about them.

Retired (abandoned) Model T Ford pushing up wild weeds and rusting to perfection.

Klahanie Campsite

Sea to Sky Highway

Squamish, British Columbia

Canada

The Model T has a front-mounted 177-cubic-inch (2.9 L) inline four-cylinder engine, producing 20 hp (15 kW), for a top speed of 40–45 mph (64–72 km/h).] According to Ford Motor Company, the Model T had fuel economy on the order of 13–21 mpg‑US (16–25 mpg‑imp; 18–11 L/100 km). The engine was capable of running on gasoline, kerosene, or ethano although the decreasing cost of gasoline and the later introduction of Prohibition made ethanol an impractical fuel for most users. The engines of the first 2,447 units were cooled with water pumps; the engines of unit 2,448 and onward, with a few exceptions prior to around unit 2,500, were cooled by thermosiphon action.

The ignition system used in the Model T was an unusual one, with a low-voltage magneto incorporated in the flywheel, supplying alternating current to trembler coils to drive the spark plugs. This was closer to that used for stationary gas engines than the expensive high-voltage ignition magnetos that were used on some other cars. This ignition also made the Model T more flexible as to the quality or type of fuel it used. The system did not need a starting battery, since proper hand-cranking would generate enough current for starting. Electric lighting powered by the magneto was adopted in 1915, replacing acetylene and oil lamps, but electric starting was not offered until 1919.

The Model T engine was produced for replacement needs, as well as stationary and marine applications until 1941, well after production of the Model T had ended.

The Fordson Model F tractor engine, that was designed about a decade later, was very similar to, but larger than, the Model T engine.

The Ford Model T was the first automobile built by various countries simultaneously, since they were being produced in Walkerville, Canada, and in Trafford Park, Greater Manchester, England, starting in 1911 and were later assembled in Germany, Argentina, France, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, and Japan, as well as several locations throughout the US. Ford made use of the knock-down kit concept almost from the beginning of the company as freight and production costs from Detroit had Ford assembling vehicles in major metropolitan centers of the US.

Around the Isle of Mull, Scotland

The Australian bush is full of the ghosts of failed ventures and broken dreams turned into nightmares.

This photo came from a stark reminder of this phenomenon on a remote, lonely and bleak 200ha littered with ghosts.

HDR photo with suitable effect.

Obsolete fishing trawlers a victim of covid 19 and rising fuel prices, ultimately rusting away and destined for the scrap yard.

And now for something completely different.

Longtime followers of my photostream may recall that my favourite car in the world sits abandoned in a field off a gravel road in the middle of nowhere. I paid it a visit recently, and came home with a new set of images, some of which I will share over the next few days.

It's obviously a departure from my usual nature & wildlife work. Departures can be good. There are no "professional expectations" attached, no worries that the critter won't come out for a photo session, no specific goal other than to allow the imagination to run wild.

The car: a 1939 Pontiac. Original colour green (I think). Forsaken by mankind; loved - and sculpted - by hail, snow, rain, wind, sand, and airborne grit.

Photographed along the Rosefield Grid in southwestern Saskatchewan (Canada). Don't use this image on websites, blogs, or other media without explicit permission ©2021 James R. Page - all rights reserved.

and walk away. While walking with Cooper on the trails behind our home, we came across this abandoned Jeep just off the trail. My guess is it hasn't been there too long as the rust is very limited and must have hit a tree and it was impossible to tow it out. So they just left it there. I actually like the processing in the second image, but the lead one shows a better and for telling the story.

Come rubber neck, and press L. I know you want to see the accident up close. We all do.

Happy New Year to all my Flickr friends. Hope you are all keeping well. I haven't been on here for ages, so I have a lot of catching up to do. I shall be looking at your creations over the next few days.

A nice bit of rust going on here, it reminds me of busy streets and avenues on a map.

Opknappertje, deze Roemeense pick-up.

It's a fixer-upper, this Romanian pick-up. With three ARO's around his house this Greek probably was once a lover of these cars, but the crisis had also struck to him. And then cars are the first to suffer. Now this Romanian hangs on a few stones rusting away.

On the Kop van Zuid in Rotterdam, old and new architecture go hand in hand. In the background, you see the multifunctional building De Rotterdam, designed as a city in a city by Rem Koolhaas, completed in 2013. It contains offices, apartments, a hotel, restaurants and leisure facilities. It is a huge eyecatcher along the border of the Maas.

On the foreground, you see an old warehouse complex 'Pakhuismeesteren', dating from 1940-1941. It is currently in a state of decay, with many 'authentic' details, for example the rusty structure on the roof. But there are plans to refurbish the building to house shops, offices and apartments.

I'm slowly recovering but am still stuck at home - so looking around for other things to photograph and get shots for some of my projects. This is outside my comfort zone but I like the textures.

Lost in time. These glorious abandoned vehicles from a time gone by.

I'm thinking the Mercury V8 pick-up and the Pontiac Chieftain are from the early 50's. On the other side of the Chieftain (out of sight is a Rambler American Wagon) from the late 60's.

L1005086 - Look closely, the bike is actually rusting away. The bottom of the wheels is roughly 40% gone. Maybe another year, only the locks will still be there.

This is the remains of.......something.........not sure what, jutting out into the water from the beach. I assume it's left over from hurricane damage to the area a few years ago. I just thought it was an interesting example of neglect and decay, so I snapped it and textured it :-)

Day Sixteen:

Once upon a time there was a man who didn't want to be there. It wasn't the here he didn't like, just the there. For there was an unpleasant place filled will belligerent beasts and entitled entities. All of which made for a hostile experience of the there. And from there no escape could be found.

And so the man tried all he could to escape from there and return to here. The here was warm, the here was full of comfort, the here was a place of solitude where the things of the there could never find him and if they did he would have all the power in the land to smite them into oblivion.

But slowly the exposure to the there chipped away at him. Causing him to crumble away as pieces were carried off in the wind. The fight to keep himself in one piece was starting to falter as pieces became chunks. Exposing him to all the there and leaving him an empty husk that was in danger of being filled with bile and bitterness like the creatures of the There.

And he lived but no one was happily ever after in the There.

A forest and old farm equipment slowly die together, while turning similar colors.
