Incredible array of rusted material in this hacienda factory that is now used by a few locals for the processing of henequen to produce sisal fiber. In the late 19th century these factories brought immense wealth to the region and their products were used for ship building and other industrial purposes. Now they are hidden in the landscape and barely used, except for a few haciendas that have been rehabbed for high end accommodations.
Assemblage triptych of rusted Altoids tins, jar lid, steamer piece, washers, sprocket, found metal, text, vintage photo, paint. Text is "There is a mystery to this..."
Old picture...my friend Mckee aka Rusted Fate with his (then) new tattoo. I showed him this design, he loved it, and the rest is history.
I found a good rust on an old-fashioned garage in Ibaraki, Osaka.
I took the photo with my Nokia N73.

Rusted Gate Handle. I thought the rust colors with the shadows of the metal were so interesting. Asolo, Italy. Color photography by Donna Corless.
A burned-out car, rusting gently away in stark contrast to the neatly trimmed grass and otherwise tidy surroundings. Sophia Antipolis, France.

Pattern: Rusted Root from Zephyr Style Size Small
Yarn: Noro Lily in lavender. I'm guessing about 5 skeins; I used a bunch of partial skeins.
Needle: US6 for body. US4 for ribbing
This is the unwashed/unblocked state and the hem and stitches are a little bit wonky. I thought the pattern was pretty well written, but I think the lace panel instructions could have been improved to produce symmetrical leaves. I made these changes after the second repeat. The instructions for my changes would read:
Row 1: K1, YO, K5, YO, (Sl2tog, K1, p2sso), YO, K5, YO, K1
Row 3: K1, YO, SSK, P1, K2tog, K1, YO, P1, YO, K1, SSK, P1, K2tog, K1, YO, K1
Row 5: K1, YO, K1, SSK, P1, K2tog, K1, P1, K1, SSK, P1, K2tog, K1, YO, K1
Row 7: K1, YO, K1, YO, SSK, P1, K2tog, P1, SSK, P1, K2tog, YO, K1, YO, K1
Row 9: K1, YO, K3, YO, (Sl2tog, K1, p2sso), P1, (Sl2tog, K1, p2sso), YO, K3, YO, K1
I also added increase hips stitches and worked the lace panel into the ribbing for about 10 rows (inspired by someone else's Rusted Root that I can't find to link to). Next time I would cast-on for the Medium size for a larger neck and follow the size Small for the rest of the sizing; I think it's likely I'll make another one of these.
