I lined up the alley walls and further down the alley to line up with the rule of thirds.

Measuring #instruments -- Slide Rule. This was used by my father-in-law in high school in the 1930's. Used for multiplication, division and some geometry. Later Slide Rules had log rhythms.

Rule of composition

- The frame was divided into thirds and the man standing was the main subject who was placed at one of the intersection points of the frame.

Why it's a good photo.

- The scenery is stunning especially with the pop of orange being exulted by the sun. The ripples from the water brings texture to the image and even though the main subject is something simple like a man standing, it somehow brings the image together.

How can it be improved

- The shot could have been taken horizontally so that more of the background can be seen so that the man can be clearly seen portraying the rule of thirds.

this is a good example of the rule of thirds because the light house (main subject) would be on one of the invisable deviding lines of the picture.
