This year the first day of the Chinese Year falls on Valentine's Day February 14, 2010
A calendar is a system we use to measure the passage of time, from short durations of minutes and hours, to intervals of time measured in days, months, years and centuries. These are fundamentally based on the astronomical observations of the movement of the Sun, Earth, Moon and stars. Days are measured by the duration of time of one self rotation of the Earth. Months are measured by the duration of time of rotation of the Moon around the Earth. Years are measured by the duration of time it takes for the Earth to rotate around the Sun.
fun facts:
The Chinese calendar predates our 430 year old Gregorian based international calendar by many centuries whereby our year 2010 is year 4708 in the Chinese calendar. This year of 2010 is the Year of the Tiger which is also known by its formal name of 'Geng Yin'.

Chinese New Year Traditions:
Red Envelopes
Red envelopes (hóng bāo) are given to children and unmarried adults. Married couples also give red envelopes to their parents. The envelopes contain money in new bills, and the total amount must be an even number. “Four” is a homonym for “death” therefore the total amount should never contain $4, $40, or $400.
Lantern Festival and Fireworks
The Festival proper begins on the first day of the first lunar month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin: zhēng yuè) in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th; this day is called Lantern Festival. The Chinese believe that evil spirits are driven away by loud noise therefore the Chinese New Year is a very loud celebration. Firecrackers are set off throughout the near two week long holiday, and there are many displays of fireworks lighting up the evening skies.
Some countries such as Singapore and Malaysia restrict the use of fireworks, but Taiwan and Mainland China still allow almost unrestricted use of firecrackers and fireworks.
Chinese Zodiac
The Chinese zodiac cycles every 12 years, each year is named after a respected animal.

I drew a design for the Ruby Red Fashion Friends Create Your Dream Doll contest and won! A year after I entered the contest, they released the doll as a Siblies. I received her free with a certificate and post cards last summer but waited to open her on my birthday last December. She sold on the Ruby Red website and FAO Schwarz online in 2025 in limited quantities. She is no longer in stock but her info and pics are still on the Ruby Red website in their Fan Creations section.
When you drop a raisin in the glass of champagne, do you know what it will do? It is going to bounce up and down from the bottom of the top, continuously.
In the song lyrics from 'Hotel California' from The Eagles
they had "..mirrors on the ceiling.. ♪ ♫ pink champagne on ice.."
Pink Champagne was made famous in the 1957 classic movie 'An Affair to Remember' when both of the lead romantic actors fall in love with each other and share 'pink bubbly'.

Champagne is made from four different grapes:
1. Chardonnay (white wine grape)
2. Pinot Noir (red wine grape)
3. Pinot Meunier
4. Pinot Gris
So how come all Champagne is not pink?
fun facts:
Grapes are all white on the inside and it is only the outside skin that has any color. Therefore one can make a white wine out of a red grape; just remove the skins immediately so that there is no red color added to the wine liquid.
For example Zinfandel is a white wine yet zinfandel is a red grape. To make a white Zinfandel, they just let the skins stay on the liquid for a short while, this allows a small amount of the tint from the red skin color the wine liquid, giving it a nice blush color.
When they make a Champagne, even though they use 'red grapes' they take the skin away immediately so that none of the red color from the skin affects the overall color of the Champagne liquid.
In order to make a Champagne a pink Champagne, all they have to do is let the skins sit with the liquid for a short while. The longer it sits together, the more blush pink the liquid becomes.

"Meat"
artist: David Černý
Meat is a 17-foot-tall fiberglass and steel sculpture by Czech artist David Černý that depicts a red car shaped like a raw slab of meat hanging from a giant nail. Installed in March 2025, it is located in downtown Palm Springs along the pedestrian walkway next to the Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs Hotel.
Callie is from the Siblies line by ruby Red Toys, they are little sisters of the Fashion Friends dolls.

Bench made by me about 20 years ago! And just today it fell on the floor and a leg needs to be fixed with a dot of glue, I got lucky it could have been much worse!
