Tuesday seemed like a good day to create a table setting, so I got out some more of my Cape Cod ware and set it up on a cream-colored placemat. After adding the cute heart border, I decided to put a light crinkle texture overlay. The hardest part is showing the deep reds while also showing the intricate design and not allowing too much red in the shadows. This glassware is so pretty in person, and though I have usable pieces, I can't imagine using them for anything but looking good. :-)
After getting it all done, I realized I had two sets of two-of-a-kind, so it's perfect for item 89 in the 118 Pictures group.

This appears to be a pile of tumbled translucent glass pieces, often sold or collected as sea glass, beach glass, decorative glass, or aquarium/vase glass.
The pieces are rounded, frosted, and pebble-like, with colors including cobalt blue, aqua, green, amber, red, yellow, purple, clear, and smoke gray. The very saturated reds, yellows, and bright greens suggest that at least some may be manufactured decorative tumbled glass rather than naturally weathered beach glass. Natural sea glass can have strong colors, but intense red, neon yellow-green, and multiple vivid colors together often point to craft or decorative glass.
Best ID: tumbled decorative glass / faux sea glass, with possible genuine sea-glass-like pieces mixed in.
Description
The image shows a dense mound of smooth glass fragments lit from below or behind. The glass acts like small colored lenses, transmitting and scattering light through frosted surfaces.
Notable visual traits:
* Frosted surfaces from tumbling or abrasion.
* Rounded edges, no sharp breaks visible.
* Internal glow, especially in the blue, red, green, yellow, and amber pieces.
* High local contrast, with brilliant luminous centers and deep black gaps.
* Macro-scale surface detail, including tiny pits, scratches, dust specks, and mineral-like frosting.
* Compressed, crowded composition, with no single dominant object, but several bright color centers pulling the eye.
The central blue piece is the strongest anchor. It has enough size, brightness, and cool color to hold the image together. The red glass at left-center and the bright yellow-green at right create counterweights.
Discussion as art
This works as a macro abstract still life more than as a documentary image of glass. The subject is ordinary, but the lighting makes it read as a miniature landscape of illuminated stones, stained glass, or gemstones.
The main strengths are:
* Color energy: The saturated transmitted colors give the image a jewel-like intensity.
* Depth: Overlapping glass creates layers, with dark foreground shapes framing the brighter interior.
* Texture contrast: The frosted surfaces prevent the image from becoming slick or purely decorative.
* Chiaroscuro: The deep blacks around the lit glass give the image a dramatic, almost nocturnal quality.
* Ambiguity: It sits between sea glass, minerals, candy, and stained glass. That ambiguity is part of the interest.
The image is visually dense. That works here because the subject is about abundance and color, but it also means the eye moves around rather than settling on one clean focal point. The central blue glass, red glass, and right-side yellow-green piece form the main visual triangle.
Focus stacking
This is a strong candidate for focus stacking, because a close-up pile of rounded glass has many depth layers. At macro distance, even at small apertures, the depth of field would be too shallow to keep this many pieces acceptably sharp.
Focus stacking helps by combining multiple frames focused at slightly different depths, giving:
* More readable surface texture across the pile.
* Sharpness on multiple overlapping pieces.
* Better separation between foreground, middle, and rear glass.
* A constructed “impossible depth” look that a single exposure would not easily provide.
There are still some soft areas, especially in the extreme foreground and some dark edge pieces. That is not necessarily a flaw. The softer foreground makes the illuminated center feel deeper and prevents the whole frame from becoming uniformly clinical.
The main stacking risks with this subject are:
* Halos along glass edges, especially where bright glass meets black gaps.
* Specular highlight artifacts from reflections shifting between frames.
* Color fringing or glow overlap around translucent edges.
* Dust and pits becoming overemphasized if sharpening is aggressive.
In this image, the stacking appears effective. The central and mid-depth pieces hold good detail, while the outer dark pieces remain less assertive.
Technical / photographic notes
The lighting is doing most of the work. This looks like transmitted light, likely from underneath, behind, or through a translucent support. That choice turns the glass from opaque objects into glowing color fields.
The exposure is biased toward preserving the glowing highlights while allowing the surrounding gaps to fall nearly black. That gives the image its stained-glass effect.
And just like that, Julien was no more cold. No more cold at all!

So I had to call my boss/the CEO at the crack of dawn b/c Ruby Red was sick. I'm very fortunate that she is an animal lover and has 4+ kitties and other animals of her own.. Ruby Red is doing ok, she got a few injections for pancreatitis flare.
The bigger concern in Ms Phoebe. I decided to bring her in as well. Last week she ate a few foam objects (she has had pica since she was a tiny kitten and thus I kitty-proof my home but obviously missed some foam). Need all the prayers you have to the Poopy Deity.. hoping and praying that the rest of the foam comes out the other end!

Waiting for blood work results
So the good news is Ms. RubyRed's kidneys are actually better than they were in the past few years.
But my sweet girl is very sick, has acute pancreatitis.. she evidently stopped eating / drinking due to nausea. She'll be in the hospital at least until the weekend. She needs to be NPO for 2 to 3 days to rest the pancreas, so IV fluids and various meds. The vet was great and I know she is in good hands. I have to cal later to check in with him for an update.

Cool Cherry Dessert Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup pitted fresh cherries
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 sliced and peeled banana
1/4 cup coarsely chopped pecans (or walnuts)
1/2 cup whipped cream
Preparation:
Combine cherries and sugar then refrigerate for 2 hours.
Combine chilled cherries with banana and nuts; fold in whipped cream.
Serve in four dessert glasses.
fun facts:
The 4th of July is Independence Day in the United States of America and also the first day of the National Cherry Festival in the ‘cherry capital’ of Traverse Bay, Michigan.
The USA is also the second highest producer of cherries after Turkey in Europe.

Sometimes I feel the urge to sew for a new doll without having to go through the time consuming process of designing the pattern myself, so I'm very glad we can purchase online sewing patterns for our dolly needs. That dress took about 1 hour to make, so that's good good good.
