These socks were knit from my own pattern, which I really don't consider a complete success. I was trying to design something that would work well with handpainted yarns, but I didn't really achieve my desired effect. The stitch pattern I used (I thought it was "Checkered Acre" from Barbara Walker's first stitch dictionary, but upon closer inspection, it's not, so I don't know what the stitch pattern is, except something that I jumbled up) is highly textured. For this reason, I kept the patterning on the leg only, and went with a 3x3 ribbing on the foot. Otherwise, I think the socks would have been terribly uncomfortable in shoes.

This is my wife's dog Ruby a cute little Boxer taken when she was a pup. She is now 20 months old. Today we picked her up from being neutered. As we arrived at the vet's my good friend was sitting in the back of his car with his black and white Springer Spaniel, "Spooks". Spooks has been ill for some time and I could see from the look on my friends face that things were bad.
My wife took Ruby home and I stayed with my friend as he held the thirteen year old veteran of most Munro's and many other adventures in his arms.
Two grown men crying in the street while his dog lay in the back of his car.
Bye Spooks.

This is Ruby, hiding behind a pinwheel/windmill. Reposted this was some Florabella textures: French Canvas and Allure Warm. Think I like the pastel feel. Shooting through an umbrella works wonders. I should have tried this ages ago.

New (sleepy)puppy in the neighborhood-Ruby just arrived from WI-she's a 7 week old Golden Retriever and just about the cutest thing you've ever seen.
Here's the thing about getting a good shot of a male ruby-throated humming bird's gorget (throat feathers). There has to be light facing the bird in just the right way for the feathers to iridesce. Otherwise, his neck just looks black. That's where a flash comes in handy.
Before my mother died, every year, she would set out the hummingbird feeders in September, because that's when the little birds make their migratory path through my part of southeast Texas. Mom and I had a deal: she would cook up the hummingbird nectar and fill the feeders and I would then hang them up for her (because it entailed a step-ladder to do that and she was 89 and there was no way I would let her up on the ladder).
The last time I was able to photograph these amazing little ruby-throated hummingbirds was in 2014. I just stood there with my Canon 1DX and 100-400mm lens and handheld the shots because they were so fast, I could barely get them with the camera on the tripod.
Yes, I used a flash because that helped freeze the action and get a good clear image,

13th MAY, LONDON – The London Ruby User Group, Dawid Skłodowski & Randy Morgan meet for talks on all things Ruby at Skillsmatter skillsmatter.com/event-details/home/lrug-may-1709 /mh-7262
This series is of the Ruby Throated Hummingbirds that took up residence in and around my back yard and garden this past Summer.
I found it amazing how perceptive these little creatures are. They would fly rite up in front of me and hover when I would enter their space . I think to say please leave my space, or hover and feed within a few feet of were I sat or stood, but point a camera in their direction and poof they were gone. Still I have managed to get a few pics of them . here are a few of my favorites.
