Loaded a short roll in my Pentax SP2, grabbed the 50/1.4 and Ruby and we went into the backyard for a quick film test.
Developed in D76 (stock) for 9 mins in the Jobo.
We spotted this male ruby-throated hummingbird perched on a badminton net near a hummingbird feeder, defending his territory!

It can be difficult capturing these little birds perched, which only weigh an average of about 3 grams. The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is migratory, spending most of the winter in southern Mexico, Central America as far south as South America, and the West Indies.
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are solitary. Adults of this species typically only come into contact for the purpose of mating, and both males and females of any age aggressively defend feeding locations within their territory. The aggressiveness becomes most pronounced in late summer to early fall as they fatten up for migration. Some of these birds weigh as much as 7.5+ grams in preparation for the migration. An early morning breakfast treat - the delicious Ruby Red grapefuit. This photo was illuminated with light from north window to the right and white board fill from the left. The fruit sets upon a white plate. Processed using Picnik.com
Ruby Red 11"x14" acrylic on gallery wrap canvas. Ripe and sassy, this elegant red is firm and sinewy, yet balanced; shows fine length and freshness, lingering easily and persisting on the lively finish. A sensual red wine pour spills over a wine goblet forming hair tresses enveloping a beautiful woman's face inside the goblet.

Ruby-crowned Kinglets are one of the busiest birds I have ever seen. They hardly ever sit still and are always flicking those wings. They always make me smile. Wyandotte, Kansas.
I asked ruby what she wanted for breakfast and she said "I want to eat me for breakfast" so I made this for her.

My winter resident Ruby-throated Hummingbird was kind enough to pose for me earlier this year. I submitted this image in our local Wild Birds Unlimited photo contest. The contest requires that the the image show both a bird and a product that you can buy from the store. The contest winners are chosen by a popularity contest as customers come into the store throughout the month.
This image won second place, and while I would have loved to have made first place, my friend Paul Hueber won that prize with his Painted Bunting image. I'm losing track of how many years he's beaten me! It's hard to compete against a male Painted Bunting. Congratulations, Paul!

I was trying to entice this ruby-throated hummingbird to take nectar from this yellow lantana. This is as close as it would come.
Trataba de atraer este colibrà gorjirrubà para que tomara néctar de esta lantana amarilla. Esto representa qué tan de cerca llegaba el colibrà a la planta.
We spotted this ruby-throated hummingbird taking a break in a tree while keeping close watch on a nearby hummingbird feeder.
