Ruby Beach, WA, is my favorite place for taking this kind of shot. This one is noisy and not especially well-composed. I took it as I was leaving. I'm going back this spring.
The Ruby Tiger Moth (Phragmatobia fuliginosa) derives its name from its pinky red forewings. One or two black spots are usually evident in the middle of the forewings and the top half of the legs are covered in red or brown hairs and the upper leg coated in red hair. The abdomen is red with black markings. The underwings are most commonly a subtle, reddy pink with black markings.
Across the UK the Ruby Tigers show a gradual variation in colour, with the brightest individuals in the south, and much duller specimens in Scotland.
Ruby Tigers are fairly widespread throughout Britain, and are common in places. They can be found on downland, heathland and sand-dunes and in woodland clearings, farmland and gardens.
They are double-brooded in the south, flying in April to June and again in August and September. In the north there is just one generation, in June. The larvae are polyphagous, feeding on a number of herbaceous plants.
Ruby Court is a development of small office units at the edge of Downtown Micropolis. It gets its name from the dark red glass sculpture which adorns the courtyard in the middle of the buildings. Ref: D1739-14

Note: "Ruby-chan" concept is something I discovered in ancient Ruby mascot discussions. Fox Small is a creation of the great Why the Lucky Stiff.

We have had our son & family to stay for a couple of nights and I'm afraid as soon as Ruby saw Alice (18 mths) & Robin (5 yrs) she was out the door and did not reappear till either they were out or had gone to bed. I think because she found them too noisy!!
This is Ruby coming in this evening as they have gone home today.
I do not think she went far, probably curled up in a neighbours quieter garden!

This is for hereios who are visiting Ruby Tuesdays today. Not very original but I've been out this evening at a meeting at school, and got home to find both my girls still awake (good old Jack was fast asleep). So it was a quick snap while I had chance!
Excuse the crappy editing too. No time :-(

From the moment I saw these birds in the trees around the cottage we visit, a few years ago, I have been trying to figure out how to get decent photographs. This summer I settled on identifying perches used periodically, and then getting in range of one of the perches. This meant two things: being on the roof, and being subject to shifting light and backgrounds. On the other hand, some of their grooming poses were amazing. It was a lot of fun hanging out with them.
Three shots of a ruby-crowned kinglet on his way through the Minneapolis area yesterday. He was with a few lady friends and did his best to impress them with his bright red crown. There is snow on the ground still, and 3 to 5 more inches on the way this evening. It is supposed to be 70 degrees by the weekend. We love it here!
