Black George was an amazing man who lived near the trail head of our backcountry campsite. He gives all his guests a root beer float

with vanilla ice cream.
Garnished with a daisy.
Nostalgic. Perhaps it was the ice cream, or perhaps it's been too long since my last encounter with the drink/dessert, but it was pleasure inducing happiness. The frosted mug, the tall neck of foamy bubbles... The image makes it look quite substantial but the volume was just right.

I'll usually order a chocolate milkshake (light on the syrup, please) ...but was having an A&W drive-in nostalgia moment. I am not really a fan of root beer and I won't be doing this again any time soon.

The root beer float used to be a special treat at the A&W over the longkang on Bukit Timah Rd. Didn't feel up to a coney dog, which would have made the trip down memory lane complete. Well, apart from the cool, dry air, lack of a massive monsoon drain and overhanging tropical vegetation. And the lack of the glass tankard which was what made having a root beer float cool to a kid. Beer... I see my alcoholism started young.
My kids are having friends stay the night tonight. I made them root beer floats and served them in real beer glasses. Does that make me a bad parent?
