Rolling Stones, ‘Five By Five’ EP, 1964. In Mono. EP stood for Extended Play. Most kids could afford singles, but albums were well ‘spense. EPs were a halfway measure for fans, usually collecting singles, B-sides and album tracks to feed a need. This EP is perfect Sixties fodder. Five tracks by the Stones (of whom there were five, hence the name). The songs were recorded at the hallowed Chess Studios in Chicago, where all the Stones’ heroes had recorded: Muddy Waters; Chuck Berry; Bo Diddley etc.
A tight collection of Blues and Soul tunes from a bunch of lads who couldn’t believe their luck.
Cracking cover too. No name or title, just five longhaired yobs (which is how the mainstream saw them back then) staring at the camera. The anti-Beatles. Would you let your daughter marry a Rolling Stone?
The Arkansas was flowing almost 3,000 cubic feet per second through Browns Canyon at the end of the day, and this was sufficient to roll boulders. The sound of boulders rolling in a river seems to come from both the water and the ground, and it is a primeval sound.
I rafted the river with Dvorak Expeditions the next day, and it was a thrilling ride; the water was flowing at four times the rate that it had last year. The water was cold, below 50 F, for it was snowmelt from the area around Leadville and Independence Pass.
It is my hope that Browns Canyon will be declared a National Monument this year--this landscape needs to be saved, for it is wild and beautiful.
This photo taken from Hecla Campground, where many of the rafts pull out.

This was the first trip I've used a "point and shoot" camera in approximately 5 years. I really missed my A7s and the lenses I own!

I took suggestions from social media on what modifications to make to the Hogwarts Grand Hall set. This best ended up as a rolling castle with a steampunk airship and a sci-fi flying saucer!

Oh how cliche...
DME's 472 (Huron-Waseca) train bobs eastbound at 10mph on the Huron Sub between Manchester, SD and De Smet, SD.
Of note: While this storm was somewhat powerful it does not compare at all to the storm that wiped Manchester, SD off the face of the planet on June 24th, 2003. Search for footage on YouTube; easily some of the best footage of a tornado out there.

50 Years ago, today - Just looking through some old prints and remembering a big occasion as a young local press photographer back in the 60s when the rock stars came to town. I was in the scrum when Mick Jagger and Keith Richards came out of Chichester court, after a drugs related hearing. Pre-focus to 3 yards, and frame the pic through the sports finder on the Rollei. Kodak Tri-X, in D76. Those were the days - not! 10th May 1967. (Scan from Print)

When all of an ocean streams through me like a river,
When the plane out the window follows the cirrus cloud lane
When half the moon glints on the plane’s window, a wink to me
When the midnight train wails mournful while the wheels clack oblivious and joyful
When the rhythm sets up a house mix in my chest
When I am the the space between the beats and the spaces stretch to morning
every time the beat goes down
When that matters so much and is instantly also forgotten
When the edge finds its angle again
When the arid dawn replaces the bubbles from the passing dark
When sleep never comes and its over.
yo, seriously, go to www.bendlight.me/2011/08/rolling/ for the exact original and then scroll around and leave some comments. Then come back to Flickr, but only then and maybe also tell a friend about Bend LIght.

This is a shot of a local horse farm (don't recall which one) from a couple of years back at about this same time of the year. It's a nice example of how good software can bring out the beauty of a shot that otherwise may not have made much impression. I used Lightroom to adjust the saturation, contrast, vibrance, and a few other things, and to push the yellows in the grass a bit more toward green. So it's probably not as realistic as the actual scene was, but the end-result is more pleasing and allows the lines of the fences and the hills to present a more pleasant image. Pretty much postcard Central Kentucky.
As always, comments, suggestions, constructive criticisms, etc., are welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Primrose Ridge, Denali National Park, Alaska. Primrose Ridge consists mostly of dry tundra and rolling hills. Primrose Ridge Overlook overlooks Savage River Valley. Print Size 13x19 inches.
This Little Blue Heron landed on this log. The log started rolling and the heron would lose its balance and throw up its wings. The bird would move more to the right hoping it would be more stable. It was funny to watch.
I couldn't decide which in this series to upload. I had many good shots but narrowed it to these four. I couldn't narrow any further.
that black dot moving down the stairs reminded me of Pete Turner's Rolling Ball picture, so i kind of borrowed the title
Replaced the original unprocessed shot with a more contrasty b&w version. Thanks Ben & Isco72 for feedback/inspiration
