After the Second World War, a large part of the city of Rotterdam was destroyed. The city had to be rebuilt again and over the years a great 'new' modern city has arisen from the ruins and rubble. The beautiful bronze statue on the Kop van Zuid near the new Luxor theater was designed by Han Rehm. It first stood at a warehouse near the Rijnhaven. However, after the warehouse was demolished in the 80s of the last century, the statue was moved to an almost invisible spot further down the Waalhaven. An almost exact replica was placed on the previously mentioned location at the end of 2014, partly due to the lobbying of a special group of people from the city.The bronze statue is a Rotterdam dock worker with a large burden on his shoulder. The impressive statue symbolizes the reconstruction of the city and the Rotterdam mentality of not words, but deeds. This is also the motto of football club Feyenoord.

Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog was een groot deel van de stad Rotterdam verwoest. De havenstad moest opnieuw worden opgebouwd en in de loop der jaren is uit de ruïnes en de puinhopen een geweldige 'nieuwe' wereldstad herrezen. Het prachtige bronzen beeld op de Kop van Zuid bij het nieuwe Luxor theater is ontworpen door Han Rehm. Het stond eerst bij een pakhuis in de buurt van de Rijnhaven. Echter na het slopen van het pakhuis in de jaren 80 van de vorige eeuw werd het beeld verplaatst naar een bijna onzichtbare plek verderop in de Waalhaven. Een haast exacte replica is eind 2014 mede door gelobby van een bijzondere groep Rotterdamse kanjers op deze prominente plek komen te staan. Het bronzen beeld betreft een Rotterdamse havenarbeider met een grote last op zijn schouder. Het indrukwekkende beeld symboliseert de wederopbouw van de stad en de Rotterdamse mentaliteit van geen woorden, maar daden. Dat is ook het motto van voetbalclub Feyenoord.

The bridge was used for years as a railway bridge and quickly became one of the icons of the port city of Rotterdam. After the bridge was no longer used as a railway bridge, it has even become a national monument and in 2017 it was also agreed in the city council that the old bridge would never be taken apart again. Jeff Bezos was once the richest man in the world, but his big competitor, the ‘Martian’ Elon Musk, now has a little more to spend. Elon Musk is known for the electric cars. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog was het grootste deel van het centrum van de stad verwoest door bombardementen en de brug 'De Hef' was het allereerste bouwwerk dat in Rotterdam werd herbouwd. De brug werd jarenlang gebruikt als spoorbrug en werd al snel een van de iconen van de havenstad Rotterdam. Nadat de brug niet meer als spoorbrug in gebruik was, is het zelfs een rijksmonument geworden en in 2017 werd ook in de gemeenteraad afgesproken dat de oude brug nooit meer uit elkaar zou worden gehaald. Jeff Bezos was ooit de rijkste man ter wereld, maar zijn grote concurrent, het ‘marsmannetje’ Elon Musk, heeft nu net wat meer te besteden. Elon Musk staat weer bekend om de elektrische auto's. De 'milieuvriendelijke' auto's die een lithiumbatterij hebben waarvan de grondstof Lithium een uitputtende grondstof is die in bepaalde bosgebieden in Zuid-Amerika in de grond zit, waardoor grote stukken bos gekapt moeten worden voor batterijen. Die bomen worden daarna helaas niet meer terug geplant, maar dit terzijde. Bezos en Musk zijn ook aan elkaar gewaagd op het gebied van ‘Milieuvriendelijke’ raketten, maar ieder heeft zijn eigen hobby en je moet wel wat met je geld doen natuurlijk. Dat is waarschijnlijk wat de oprichter en voormalig CEO van Amazon gedacht moet hebben toen hij een Nederlandse scheepsbouwer de opdracht gaf om een zeer luxe zeiljacht voor hem te laten maken. Het jacht wordt het grootste zeiljacht ter wereld en het op één na grootste jacht ter wereld. Over prestige bij de allerrijksten ter wereld valt dan ook niets te klagen. Er is echter een klein probleempje, het ‘bootje’ kan niet onder de iconische brug 'De Hef' door en komt dan niet in open water. De brug is immers maar 45 meter hoog. De Rotterdammers zijn woedend dat de brug later in het jaar wordt afgebroken en willen het jacht met rotte eieren bekogelen. Als de hooligans van Feyenoord zich met de zaak gaan bemoeien , dan zouden de eieren zeker worden vervangen door stenen. Hoewel de harde kern van Feyenoord vroeger jarenlang bekend stond als de meest gevreesde groep hooligans van Europa, zal Jeff Bezos hier natuurlijk niet echt wakker van liggen. Het schip zal immers worden uitgerust met de nodige veiligheidsgadgets en ook met antispionage- en anti-radartechnologieën. Voor geld om eventuele schade te herstellen, nou daar hoeft hij zeker niet financieel voor te bloeden. Bezos heeft gezegd dat hij de kosten van het demonteren en het daarna weer in elkaar zetten van de brug uit eigen zak zal betalen. Nederland is de absolute marktleider als het gaat om het bouwen van luxe jachten en het bouwen van dit jacht zorgt voor veel werkgelegenheid en koopkracht. Dat is goed voor de Nederlandse en Rotterdamse economie. Meneer Bezos, ik heb een voorstel voor u. Wilt u als blijk van waardering een mooi bedrag doneren aan de gemeente Rotterdam zodat er eindelijk een nieuw Feyenoord stadion gebouwd kan worden of dat het oude gerenoveerd kan worden, omdat clubs in alle steden ter wereld erin slagen nieuwere moderne stadions te bouwen of om de oude te renoveren. Zelfs hele kleine clubs kunnen dit, maar al meer dan 10 jaar is dat nog steeds niet mogelijk in de metropoolregio Rotterdam. Misschien laten de Rotterdammers hun rotte eieren dan wel thuis.
Dutch housing from the late 1970's and 1980's is far from popular. Imagination and style are lacking and the materials used are cheap. Most social housing consists of small scale blocks, surrounded by more admired pre-war architecture. Not so the estates Carel Weeber designed. Weeber designed on a much larger scale and often with an allure that would not look out of place in a Parisian banlieu. Obviously, that does not make his buildings much more popular than others from the same age. Some of Weeber's buildings have been demolished already.
His building the Peperklip (phonetic Dutch for paper clip) is a semi-enclosed complex of 549 subsidised flats on 7-9 floors. The internal courtyard with a garden and a playground is accessible from the outside. When it was designed, opinions ranged from inhospitable, cold and merciless to timeless, rational and liberating from the previous decade's dowdy buildings. Some claim the city's allocation of tenants has not been kind to the building either. The Peperklip is now nicknamed Pauper Clip.

At the end of 2017, KPN took the building into use as its headquarters. The building known in Rotterdam under the name 'Toren op Zuid' and designed by the world famous Italian architect Renzo Piano, is also called Belvedère or ‘De Link’. Due to the move of KPN, the building was renovated and adapted by V8 architects in 2018. I have now made a close-up photo of the special facade of the building. With this perspective and composition I want to give the photo an artful look. The front facade is kept skewed by a steel pole of around 50 meters. It serves as a large billboard. The glass facade is equipped with approximately 1000 green lamps. This allows images to be displayed. At major events such as the Rotterdam marathon, the images are provided by the municipality of Rotterdam and KPN. The Willem de Kooning Academy ensures that art expressions can also be seen on the light screen. The software to show the animations on the screen was then still very advanced and the billboard was around 2001 the largest billboard of whole europe.

Eind 2017 nam KPN het gebouw in gebruik als hoofdkantoor. Het gebouw dat in Rotterdam bekend staat onder de naam 'Toren op Zuid' en is ontworpen door de wereldberoemde Italiaanse architect Renzo Piano. Het gebouw wordt ook wel Belvedère en soms ook ‘De Link’ genoemd. Het pand is in 2018 verbouwd en aangepast door V8 architecten. Ik heb nu een close-up foto gemaakt van de bijzondere gevel van het pand en heb geprobeerd om met dit perspectief en compositie de foto een kunstzinnige look te geven. De gevel wordt trouwens scheef gehouden door een stalen paal van circa 50 meter. Het dient als een groot reclamebord. De glazen gevel is voorzien van circa 1000 groene lampen. Hierdoor kunnen afbeeldingen worden weergegeven. Gedurende het jaar wordt door KPN reclame vertoont op dit bijzondere scherm. Bij grote evenementen zoals de marathon van Rotterdam worden de beelden aangeleverd door de gemeente Rotterdam. Unfortunately, I have not yet found online which genius has created this colorful mural. The color combinations and the structures in the face are very special and unique. I really looked at it with admiration for a while. The mural can be found in the Eendrachtsstraat in the center of Rotterdam. I have chosen to cut away the wall and the rest of the environment so that the face with the impressive color structure stands out even more. There are other Flickr users who have left the wall on it. I also like these well-executed photos, but in this specific case it seemed like a real addition to edit it in this way.

Helaas heb ik tot nu toe online nog niet gevonden welk genie deze kleurrijke muurschildering heeft gemaakt. De kleurencombinaties en de structuren in het gezicht zijn erg bijzonder en uniek. Heb er echt wel een tijdje met volle bewondering naar gekeken. De muurschildering is te vinden in de Eendrachtsstraat in het centrum van Rotterdam. Ik heb er voor gekozen om de muur en de rest van de omgeving weg te snijden zodat het gezicht met de indrukwekkende kleurenstructuur er nog meer uitspringen. Er zijn andere Flickr gebruikers die de muur er wel op hebben laten staan. Vind ik ook hele mooie foto's, maar in dit specifieke geval leek het me echt een toevoeging om het op deze manier te bewerken.

The InHolland building in Rotterdam South is a colorful university building with a lot of glass that is designed by Erick van Egeraat. Among other great things, he also designed the prestigious multifunctional new stadium of Dynamo Moscow. The world famous architect is married to a Czech fashion model and leads a very luxurious life where big parties are certainly no exception. In the Netherlands he has even received a royal decoration in 2016 and in Russia he was for many years the most asked foreign architect but in the same year of his royal decoration he also was seriously accused of fraud (4 million) after a dubious bankruptcy. The wildest stories circulate about this and his other dubious bankruptcies, but the clever architect has never been convicted of fraud. In his top years he partied with the most influential people in the world such as movie stars, DJs, top actors, famous fashion models and even presidents and prime ministers of different countries shared a drink with him. As a top architect, he leads the life of a pop star en drives in expensive cars like his golden Porsche Panamera, but that doesn't stop him from creating the most beautiful designs for his prestigious projects. He sometimes makes remarkable statements. For example, he made the statement that the new Feyenoord stadium will certainly be a bad stadium after they had not chosen him as a designer. In short, the brilliant top architect is certainly not a boring man. The Inholland building has a modern look and is truly a work of art to behold. It is also multifunctional with offices, a university and a garage. People who are interested in architecture sometimes look with eyes open at the special design.

Het gebouw van InHolland hoge school in Rotterdam Zuid is een kleurrijk gebouw met veel glas dat is ontworpen door Erick van Egeraat. Hij is net als Rem Koolhaas winnaar van diverse prestigieuze internationale architectprijzen. Zo won Van Egeraat meer dan tien awards. In 2013 won hij bijvoorbeeld de European Property Award. Hij ontworp onder andere ook het prestigieuze multifunctionele nieuwe stadion van Dynamo Moskou. Hij is getrouwd met het Tsjechische fotomodel Tiffany en leidt al jarenlang een zeer luxueus leven waarbij hij graag rondrijdt in zijn goudkleurige Porsche Panamera. In Nederland is hij in 2016 zelfs koninklijk onderscheiden als officier in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau en in Rusland was hij jarenlang de meest gevraagde buitenlandse architect. In hetzelfde jaar van zijn koninklijke onderscheiding werd hij in Rusland daar nog wel even beschuldigd van miljoenenfraude en oplichting door een steenrijke Russische zakenman na een dubieus faillissement. Hij zegt zelf hierover dat de oplichting juist andersom was. Over dit faillissement en zijn andere dubieuze faillissementen doen de wildste verhalen de ronde, maar de slimme architect is nooit veroordeeld voor fraude of oplichting en is inmiddels specialist in het fenomeen doorstart. In zijn toptijd feestte hij samen met de meest invloedrijke mensen ter wereld zoals filmsterren, dj's, topacteurs en bekende fotomodellen. Zelfs captains of industry en bekende politici deden wel eens een drankje met hem. Hij leidt als toparchitect het leven van een popster, maar dat weerhoudt hem er niet van om de meest mooie projecten uit de grond te stampen. Daarbij doet hij soms opmerkelijke uitspraken. Zo deed hij de uitspraak dat het nieuwe Feyenoordstadion zeker een verschrikkelijk stadion wordt nadat ze niet voor hem als ontwerper hadden gekozen. Kortom een saaie man is de geniale toparchitect zeker niet. Het gebouw van Inholland heeft een modern uiterlijk en is echt een kunstwerk om te zien. Het gebouw is bovendien multifunctioneel met een hoge school, garage en bedrijfsruimtes. Mensen die geïnteresseerd zijn in architectuur staan soms met ogen open te kijken naar het bijzondere ontwerp.

This afternoon I walked through beautiful Rotterdam South to see the impressive murals in the Afrikaanderwijk and this empty former school building stood out because of the beautiful sails at the front and, as it turned out, also at the back. However, when I got closer I saw that the window of the front door had been smashed and spontaneously decided to take a picture of it. I personally think the photo turned out very well, but I completely disapprove of the behavior of vandals. Empty buildings should also be left alone. There's no need for it.

Vanmiddag liep ik door het prachtige Rotterdam Zuid om onder andere de indrukwekkende muurschilderingen in de Afrikaanderwijk te aanschouwen en dit leegstaande voormalig schoolgebouw viel op vanwege de prachtige zeilen aan de voorkant en zoals later bleek ook aan de achterkant. Echter toen ik dichterbij kwam zag ik dat de ruit van de voordeur was ingegooid en besloot er spontaan een foto van te maken. Ik vind de foto persoonlijk erg goed gelukt, maar ik keur het gedrag van vandalen echt helemaal af. Leegstaande gebouwen moeten ook met rust gelaten worden. Het is nergens voor nodig.

The Dutch street art duo Telmo Miel is known all over the world for their murals. The two artists are really creative and each have their own style. Telmo Pieper's work is challenging and humorous, while Miel Krutzmann's work is steeped in romanticism and has a more picturesque style. Based in Rotterdam, the duo combine their different styles in beautiful murals that can be seen at several places around the world. In 2019 they also combined their expertise with another world class artist, namely the in Australian born Sam Bates. In the streetart world he is known by the name Smug and Smug One. He has been living and working in Scotland for years, where he has made very realistic murals. His style can mainly be characterized as photo-realistic. The special collaboration and the different styles have resulted in the very impressive and extremely beautiful mural at the korte Hillestraat near metro station Rijnhaven in the Afrikaanderwijk and is part of the Feijenoord district in the atmospheric south of Rotterdam. The message behind the artwork is that all people are actually all equal on the inside. I think this mural is really beautiful because of the combined styles, but it is also unique because of the combination of a lady with clothes, a skeleton and a bird. Add the shades of pink, purple and white on the gray wall of the flat and the result is a world-class artwork.It is probably the most photographed mural in Rotterdam since it was painted there during the international oriented cultural urban art festival POW! WOW! In 2019. A very long time ago, the Afrikaanderwijk was briefly home to football club Feyenoord, although the football club had a different name at the time. The district was then a typical working-class neighborhood where many hard working migrants lived, mostly from the Dutch province of Zeeland. They often worked in the world-famous port of Rotterdam. In 2022 it is a very nice multicultural neighborhood with very beautiful and impressive murals in many places.

De twee kanjers Telmo en Miel zijn over de hele wereld bekend vanwege hun muurschilderingen. Alle twee de kunstenaars zijn erg creatief en hebben ieder hun eigen stijl. Zo is Telmo Pieper zijn werk uitdagend en humoristisch terwijl Miel Krutzmann zijn werk doordrenkt is van romantiek en een meer schilderachtige stijl heeft. Het duo heeft als thuisbasis Rotterdam en zij combineren hun verschillende stijlen in hun prachtige muurschilderingen die op meerdere plekken over heel de wereld te zien zijn. In 2019 hebben ze hun krachten ook nog eens gecombineerd met een andere wereldtopper, namelijk de in Australia geboren Sam Bates. In de kunstwereld is hij bekend onder de naam Smug en Smug One. Hij is al jaren woonachtig en werkzaam in Schotland waar hij zeer mooie muurschilderingen heeft gemaakt. Bates is ook internationaal bekend. Zijn stijl is vooral te kenmerken als fotorealistisch. De bijzondere samenwerking en de verschillende stijlen hebben geresulteerd in de zeer indrukwekkende en erg mooie muurschildering op een flat bij de (korte) Hillestraat en Hillelaan vlakbij metrostation Rijnhaven in de Afrikaanderwijk in stadsdeel Feijenoord in het sfeervolle zuiden van superstad Rotterdam. De boodschap achter het kunstwerk is volgens bronnen op internet dat alle mensen van binnen eigenlijk allemaal gelijk zijn. Ik vind deze muurschildering echt fantastisch mooi vanwege de gecombineerde stijlen en de details, maar het is ook uniek vanwege de combinatie van de dame met kleding, het skelet en de vogel. Voeg daarbij de kleuren roze, paars en wit op de grijze muur van de flat en een kunstwerk van wereldklasse is het resultaat. Het is denk wel de meest gefotografeerde muurschildering van Rotterdam sinds het daar geschilderd is tijdens het internationale georiënteerde culturele urban art festival POW! WOW! In 2019. Heel Lang geleden was de Afrikaanderwijk korte tijd de thuisbasis van voetbalclub Feyenoord, al had het de meest interessante volksclub van Nederland toen nog een andere naam. De wijk was toen een typische volksbuurt waar veel arbeidsmigranten woonden, veelal uit de Nederlandse provincie Zeeland, die in de wereldberoemde Rotterdamse haven werkten. Anno 2022 is het een hele leuke multiculturele wijk met op veel plekken erg mooie en indrukwekkende muurschilderingen.
this week there is the North Sea Jazz festival in Rotterdam, everywhere in the city there are performances. On squares, in stations,on the streets. It is a great,relaxed atmosphere.You hear the smooth tones,and people are starting dancing,Dutch people.., this little girl also got caught by the music and danced herself into the light.

It is a statue of Dutch artist Loeki Metz. A bronze base plate and a sculpture of patinated bronze are put on concrete. The snakes are symmetrical and have 4 heads and bite each other in those heads. A lot of People in Rotterdam find the sculpture a Monster ( not to be confused with me and my family 😉)

The art depot of the world-famous top museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is an exceptionally impressive architectural masterpiece that is located on the square in the museum park in Rotterdam.I will upload this first public art depot in the world another time this year. Opposite this beautiful building is an imposing colored pole that looks like a kind of E.T. or some other alien. This creative work of art that appeals to the imagination of science fiction has a light projector in the eyes that illuminates the depot in the evening on the square and creates circles of light on the ground. The functional bizarre artwork was created by the videoart artist Pipilotti Rist who sees herself as a kind of Pippi Longstocking. Her real name is Elisabeth Rist.

Het kunstdepot van het wereldberoemde topmuseum Boijmans Van Beuningen is een bijzonder indrukwekkend architectonisch meesterwerk dat staat op het plein in het museumpark in Rotterdam. Dit eerste openbare kunstdepot ter wereld zal ik dit jaar nog een keer uploaden. Tegenover dit prachtige gebouw staat een imposante gekleurde paal die eruitziet als een soort E.T. of een ander buitenaards wezen. Dit creatieve kunstwerk dat tot de verbeelding van sciencefiction spreekt heeft een lichtprojector in de ogen die 's avonds het depot op het plein verlicht en op de grond cirkels van licht creëert. Het functionele bizarre kunstwerk is gemaakt door de video kunstenares Pipilotti Rist die zichzelf ziet als een soort Pippi Langkous. Haar echte naam is Elisabeth Rist.
In Rotterdam there is a lot of graffiti art on the walls of buildings. Searched online for the artist but unfortunately I couldn't find anything about it. These 2 murals are very cheerful and people who have an eye for paintings on the walls of buildings find these public works of art very funny and regularly put a nice big smile on their faces.

This special building is the very first Russian Orthodox church in the Netherlands ever. This Alexander Nevsky Church is a copy of the world-famous Pokrovana-Nerli Church in Russia. The impressive golden dome of the Rotterdam church is about 8 meters long and weighs more than 1500 kilos. For years the Russian church community gathered in various places, such as at the beginning on a houseboat in the hospitable city. Over time, the community grew and so this building was built in 2002. In 2004 the first church service was held in the beautiful building. In my life I have met some lovely and very interesting Russian people in the Netherlands, but also during some nice trips in other parts of Europe. The respect I got from them was admirable.They did not judge my height, appearance and skin color. They were all super nice people. I am very happy that the faithful Russian community in this church can come together to attend church services.

Это особое здание является самой первой русской православной церковью в Нидерландах. Эта Александро-Невская церковь является копией всемирно известной церкви Покрована-Нерли в России. Впечатляющий золотой купол церкви имеет длину около 8 метров и весит более 1500 кг. В течение многих лет русская церковная община собиралась в разных местах, например, вначале на плавучем доме в гостеприимном городе. Со временем община росла, и в 2002 году было построено это здание. В 2004 году в красивом здании прошла первая церковная служба. В своей жизни я встречал прекрасных и очень интересных русских людей в Нидерландах, а также во время некоторых приятных поездок в другие части Европы. Уважение, которое я получил от них, было восхитительным. Они не судили о моем росте, внешности и цвете кожи. Все они были супер милыми людьми. Я очень рад, что верующая русская община в этом храме может собираться вместе на богослужения.

Dit bijzondere gebouw is de allereerste Russisch-orthodoxe kerk in Nederland ooit. Deze Alexander Nevski-kerk is een kopie van de wereldberoemde Pokrovana-Nerli-kerk in Rusland. De indrukwekkende gouden koepel van de kerk in wereldstad Rotterdam is zo'n 8 meter lang en weegt meer dan 1500 kilo. Jarenlang verzamelde de Russische kerkgemeenschap zich op verschillende plekken, zoals in het begin op een woonboot in de gastvrije stad. In de loop van de tijd groeide de gemeenschap en zo werd in 2002 dit gebouw gebouwd. In 2004 werd de eerste kerkdienst gehouden in het prachtige gebouw. In mijn leven heb ik een aantal leuke en zeer interessante Russen ontmoet in Nederland, maar ook tijdens een aantal leuke reizen in andere delen van Europa. Het respect dat ik van hen kreeg was bewonderenswaardig. Ze oordeelden totaal niet over mijn lengte, uiterlijk en huidskleur. Het waren allemaal super aardige mensen. Ik ben erg blij dat de trouwe Russische gemeenschap in deze kerk samen kan komen om kerkdiensten bij te wonen.

Lijn 25 naar Schiebroek komt aan op halte Wilhelminaplein met in de achtergrond de felgele 'Splashtours'bus, welke eigenlijk een amfibievoertuig is. De bus maakt rondvaarten door de Maas, alsook ritten door de stad.
De tocht van 60 minuten voert langs diverse bezienswaardigheden door de stad om daarna letterlijk de Maas in te duiken voor een rondvaart.
