My post yesterday of this visiting porcupine did look odd, making some wonder where his head was. Here's another shot of him as he slowly vamoosed showing a profile of his small head.
Their nose and bellies are where predators attack them so they do their best to keep their back to attackers and not get turned over.
Porcupines have a relatively high longevity and hold the record for being the longest-living rodent, with one individual named Cooper living past 32 years. Not surprising when they have those hurtful weapons on their backs.
A baby porcupine is a porcupette. When born, a porcupette's quills are soft hardened hair. They harden within a few days, forming the sharp quills of adults. Hmmm, interesting name for the one thing you shouldn't do is pet a porcupine.....
Thanks for any comments, faves and suggestions!

Stork-Billed Kingfisher, Pelargopsis capensis, Pekaka Emas
This is a very large kingfisher, measuring up to 38 cm in length. The call of this species is noisy. Stork-billed kingfisher is a species of a variety of well-wooded habitats near lakes, rivers or coasts. It perches quietly whilst seeking food, and is often inconspicuous despite its size. It is territorial and will chase away eagles and other large predators. This species hunts fish, frogs, crabs, rodents and young birds. The nest is dig in a river bank, in the decaying tree, or maybe a tree termite nest.

The red squirrel or Eurasian red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) is a species of tree squirrel in the genus Sciurus common throughout Europe and Asia. The red squirrel is an arboreal, primarily herbivorous rodent. In Great Britain, Ireland, and in Italy numbers have decreased drastically in recent years. This decline is associated with the introduction by humans of the eastern grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) from North America. The red squirrel is found in both coniferous forest and temperate broadleaf woodlands. The squirrel makes a drey (nest) out of twigs in a branch-fork. Tree hollows and woodpecker holes are also used. Squirrels are hunted by martens and birds of prey. The red fox, cats and dogs also can prey upon the red squirrel when it is on the ground.

I combined 2 Wombo images (style VFX) for with 5 of my photos of squirrels and a chipmunk. Ran it through JixiPix Impresso Pro to soften and blend the edges a bit.
Another of my favorite prompt words is "abandoned." Add a place, building, room to that and some interesting places appear.

The nutria (Myocastor coypus) is a South American rodent species and can live over ten years. Already more than 100 years ago, the animals were introduced to Europe for fur and meat production. With a body weight of about 9 kg, it grows up to 65 cm long, plus a tail length of about 45 cm.
