Once upon a time, in a bustling town of iron rails and gaslight, a young ringmaster named Elias ran a traveling circus. His eyes shone with the gleam of a dreamer who believed the world could be pieced together with courage and laughter. With a bow, he strode through the tent aisle.
His mascot, a white duck named Alabaster, waddled beside him every morning, perched gently on Elias's gloved hand.
Elias believed passionately in two things, The show must be grand, but the heart must remain soft. As the crates shook with the roar of lions and the drumbeat pounded like rain on a tin roof, he spoke to the animals as if they were old friends. And when the crowd fell silent, their eyes wide like coins, alabaster slipped into his palm, and magic flowed through the crowd.
Thus, beneath the striped banners and the breath of heaven, a ringmaster and his white duck sewed joy into the cityscape. In the candlelight of the finale, as the curtain fell and the applause rolled like warm thunder,
Elias lifted his hat to the heavens and thanked the quiet courage of a simple bird who believed with him that happiness could be passed from hand to hand, from heart to heart, until every face wore a smile so radiant it outshone the stars.

A festival held annually in P.T. Barnum's home town. The photo was taken at the corner of Franklin and Main Streets according to the street sign.
The manager of the circus, who was incidentally also the ringmaster, thought these two were pretty cute. But he didn't hire them because he was afraid after 1 or 2 performances they would vanish into thin air. He may have been right. Lightlings don't have a particularly long life span.
For Dave C., that's the *soul* of these two little clowns.
ABOUT RAINTINGS
Rainting is a word I coined describing a painterly effect, achieved by photographing the subject through glass that is being rained on, like a windshield or other. It achieves an oftentimes pretty or soft flowing effect, and sometimes other-worldly. It is usually creative, fun, and fluid, seldom harsh in my opinion. I have an album of them on Flickr. Rainting is already in "The Urban Dictionary" but I would like it to also be in a more sophisticated/educational type of dictionary. I started a public Flickr group of Raintings on New Year's Day 2020.
The more collegiate type of dictionaries say that the word has to actually be used by people before they're likely to publish it. So if you like the word and my idea, say it loud and say it clear and take a few Raintings and post them to my new group. Using my word and trying my new group are not inclusive of one another.

ABOUT LIGHTLINGS
Lightling is an even newer word I coined to name the odd little sort of anthropomorphic characters that sometimes appear in my images when doing a Rainting. They come in many sizes, shapes and colors and often times have what appear to be various facial expressions. In school we may have learned that a square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square. Well Raintings can exist without Lightlings in the scene, but Lightlings cannot exist without a Rainting.

Norman Barrett MBE is a veteran British circus ringmaster who has made a number of appearances on television.He is well known for his act with performing budgerigars.He has been awarded the MBE in the 2010 New Year honours list.. Norman has worked with all the worlds great circuses and spent 25 years at Blackpool Tower Circus.Norman has spent the last 11 years as ringmaster for the well known Zippo's Circus touring England and Scotland.

Echoes of the 1940s Circus: Steam Trains, Big Top Lights and Forgotten Wonders
Description
A cinematic journey through a fictional vintage circus world inspired by the atmosphere of the 1940s: steam trains arriving through clouds of smoke, crowded railway platforms, canvas tents rising at dawn, performers preparing behind the scenes, glowing fairground lights, brass bands, trapeze artists, ringmasters, clowns, fortune tellers, animal acts, travelling caravans and the quiet moments hidden between spectacle and exhaustion.
This collection evokes the golden age of travelling circuses as if seen through the lens of an old documentary photographer, but with the visual richness of modern cinematic photography. Warm amber lights, deep shadows, smoky interiors, velvet costumes, weathered wood, worn posters, dusty roads and dramatic faces create a world suspended between memory, theatre and dream.
